I heard recently within social media that 87002 suffered some serious problems.
Anyone out there know of what is going on?

Had a serious transformer issue about a month ago (primary coil overload and Buchholz relay trip-I'm not an electrician so can't explain what the Buchholz does) and is currently under repair at Willesden.
No ETA for its release yet as far as I'm aware.

Hopefully so, there's been the usual rumours but the driver who dragged it to Willesden says it's being repaired so I'm going to believe him!
Wikipedia has an excellent explanation of what a Buchholz relay is all about. Basically it detects if the transformer is dying and shuts off the power before it gets the chance to do catastrophic damage.

87002 repaired and back on the sleeper ECS this evening having worked 5S96 (stock for the Lowlander) into Euston.
