There's a certain symmetry here.

Once upon a time, the locomotives from the Great Northern commuter line into London moved north and became the motive power on the Edinburgh - Glasgow expresses for a few years.

Those beautiful beautiful locos were the Class 27s and they are part of the Good Old Days (along with large logo 37s and ScotRail liveried 47/7s). Ah, happy days, before we learnt to dismiss any cascaded trains as "London cast-offs" and jump to conclusions. seems fitting that the 365s are following in the footsteps of the 27s - makes sense.

! ! ! ! i'm happy to hear you guys are pretty positive about the 365's and i gotta say i am too!

how is the comfort inside the 365's ? as a longish route E and G traveler who does it lots of days i guess it'll be important? and what features do the 365's have?

also after the 385's come in, i wonder where the 365's will go? i imagine they will eventually be used to displace the 314's and 318's ?

They're only being proposed on a temp basis until the 385s are ready - which will also eventually replace the 314s. The 318s have had post 2020 disability compliance modifications done so they're not going anywhere anytime soon.

Yeah, back into storage once the 385s are running again. These are a temporary fix, and keeping them on beyond what is necessary will be an unplanned for cost for a franchise that isn't without it's financial difficulties

alrighty! :D , i do look forward to these units still.

do they have places to charge phones, or is it still all basic inside?

what i look forward to is at least fasterish journey times, providing scotrail don't drive them so slow they would make a shunter look like a class 91

(which they like to do at 8 o clock in the morning >:( )

Scottish Govt has sized the order of 385s based on E&G, Shotts, Dunblane & Alloa electrification which are at an advanced state. These latter schemes were " a rolling programme of electrification..." which hopefully will continue, and any route that SG commits to electrifying will require suitable rolling stock. Not heard any announcements, plenty of rumours though.

But even then, it'd still make more sense to take up the 385 options (or have Hitachi honour them for free given the issues they've caused) and then standardise on one fewer type of EMU than keeping around a small fleet of non-standard, non-air conditioned, old units.

And, never let it be said that the TSSA aren't on the ball… a story in the Herald (and Evening Times) complaining about Abellio, ROSCOs and pretty much everyone else.

Presumably Mr Cortes has a parallel press release for Northern readers which welcomes the transfer of much-needed stock from Scotrail to bolster its services.
You can't have it both ways.

I agree 100%. A decision on extending the rolling programme is overdue.

More chance of winning the £121m jackpot on Tuesday than that happening! 8-)

Err we don't "like" to drive slowly we are following signalling sequences. If we didnt do that there would be a train crash. It happens at 8 in the morning due to the network being at capacity at that time much like the M8 car park at 8am.

Precisely. If it was a case of ScotRail drivers liking to drive slowly, then why does the 05:57 Crewe-Glasgow drive slowly from Motherwell onwards...?

(Incidentally, I was on that service on the 2nd January-where there are no SR services running that early (I wouldn't have been on it had I known that!) And we arrived into GLC nearly 15 early!

There is much silence from all parties on Hitachi’s culpability in all of this. I smell something odd here, normally you would have Huma telling all how the government will hold the contractor to account, rhetoric and posturing are the normal here. However in this case nothing. I suspect Hitachi are not accepting full responsibility for all the issues and the late start to testing after the electrification work are muddying waters. I suspect passengers and taxpayers will end up funding Most of whatever this costs, and it won’t be cheap.

Hope these can get on the rails ASAP. The 6 and 7 cars still have a lot of people standing and the short formed peak time services are packed.

I hope the 365s all work out, ScotRail will certainly get some extra revenue from me if they do.

Via Shotts is usually more convenient for me but I'll make the effort for the sight of one of those smiles.

Hopefully Scotrail can come to some agreement with the unions about how they will be operated (regarding the doors as I would imagine the preferred method would be for Driver release, guard to signal to close via the bells method [unless the door control module in the other cabs can be modified to be live]).

A good fit for the Edinburgh - Glasgow Queen Street route, nice interiors and a good motor noise

Based on my past experiences commuting into London on 365's. I think they will be well received by the travelling public. It might even be that the 385's will felt a backward step when they are replaced

I have always found them comfortable. They are more comfortable than the ones that are replacing them in the South. They also have good acceleration.

Is there strength to the quoted number of 10? Doesn’t seem quite right as presumably at least 1 unit will be out of service each day?

I guess the assumption is the 6x 380 will still be available each day, but that would require 100% availability from the 365 fleet to make every E&G service a double unit.

365s can’t couple to 380s, so no opportunity to mix and match. And unless you eliminate 380 operation on E&G then you can’t reinstate First Class.
