Placed back in pool

I've had to rearrange an interview with Southeastern and have been told I will be placed back in 'the pool' what does that mean exactly?
Will I wait ages to be interviewed or will it be on the next lot that they do?

Hi Gary, I can ony assume that because you couldn't absolutely put your own life on hold and drop everything for an interview that may or may not have advanced your career, they chose to stick you back in your holding pen. You must now bow courteously to your TOC masters and thank the gods that you are back in the pool of talent.
I mean, how dare you not be available when a TOC shouts you for an immediate interview? Why can you not just be ready to drop everything for them? Shame on you!

Ha ha I know it was tongue in cheek. I was getting time away from my current employer to attend the interview but we have had sudden staff shortages and I can't leave them in the lurch. (I work with vulnerable people) SE seem happy with that.

Get used to it. TOC human resources are not the most efficient department to deal with.

I know this feeling well, however, all is not lost Gary. I was in a pool for over 2 years awaiting interview, got a phone call asking me to attend an interview that week (which I could attend), passed the interview and then again waited over 6 months.....I start my job with the same TOC in JUne!

That’s a very difficult one.

Unfortunately you *could* be waiting for a while, but hopefully not. A lot of it depends on the training school agreeing dates for new intakes, spaces available etc.

Unfortunately TOCs are inflexible. If a candidate can’t make it they will simply offer the slot to someone else who can.

I’d always advise anyone applying to move heaven and earth to attend. Put yourself first, call in sick if necessary. I can guarantee your current employer would sack you in a heartbeat if it made sense for them to do so!

I wouldn’t advise this,
If your currently employed find out you have attended an interview after you have called in sick, the repercussions could be severe. This could and would be classed as Gross Misconduct, and could end up facing the sack.

But agree where possible, always try to attend and agree putting yourself first is the best policy.
