If there's anyone in the Dundee area who's not seen the new power car livery in the flesh - 43143 and 43146 are currently in the carriage sidings (along with 4 carriages, of course) and I can't see anything in RTT that looks like a movement in the next few hours.

That is a fantastic livery, though it's a pity that they're only doing the Edinburgh silhouette on the units and not including some of the other six cities that the units will serve (Aberdeen, Dundee, Glasgow, Inverness, Perth and Stirling).

Not quite true that; if you look closely, you can see the Wallace Monument and the Finnieston Crane on 43146, along with some other motifs on 43143.

Do excuse me - having looked closer, I can now see the Wallace Monument, the Finnieston Crane and the traffic cone-wearing Duke of Wellington on the side of power car 43146.

The livery has all 7 cities on it, it just takes an eagle eye to notice what's featured from all of them. Someone on the ScotRail boards put up a labelled render of it a while back, I'll see if I can hunt it out.

And in any case the UK has, if I recall correctly, gone stricter than the EU. Under the EU Directive, PRM TSI applies ONLY to new stock, the UK has unilaterally applied it to all stock from 2020.

Indeed correct, Maggie wanted to outdo the EU so put in a mandated date for all stock. So nothing to do with the EU at all. This seems to come up alarmingly regular!

Up there as yet another good livery coming out at the moment to go with Northern and TPE (for me anyway).

It's a bit off putting Wallace in twice. The Wallace Monument isn't even in Stirling itself - it's on the wrong side of Stirling Bridge!

Why not a Wolf or the Black Boy? (A silhouette of the Athenaeum would look good, but again it's got Wallace in front of it).

What about with internal 'passengers'? I know that airlines often do that when they introduce a new type to the fleet.

Nothing to do with catering staff. The facts are: The pair are there for maintenance training and will be departing south again in a couple of weeks time when the driver training set arrives in Inverness. There are also a coupe of Mk3s in the wagon shops (adjacent to P1/2) and these are again for maintenance staff training. A shunting loco (08648) has also arrived for driver training- it is the ex-Grand Central liveried one- and is fitted with a buckeye. the other shunter will be remaining for the time being as it is on hire for the sleeper shunting. What its future will be after the Mk5s arrive is unknown at present.

There is also a Wallace Monument in Elderslie, which is halfway between Paisley and Johnstone.
