How uncomfortable is a cab seat in a 365?

This morning was a perfect camera moment, but sadly one that I missed.

365 coming through on the fast line at Hatfield towards London with a driver standing up and half pressed against the side door/window.

Now, imagine how you might have to partially stand and lean to still be able to reach all the controls without sitting - and that's what I saw!

It looked incredibly funny, but must have been rather uncomfortable for the driver!

Ive seen safety videos about keeping awake/circulation going and they show drivers standing up. I would have thought that as long as you can reach the controls in the same way as sat down then there isnt a problem. (thinking going for the brake in an emergency)

I remember when I was coming back home from my assessments/interview at Old Street, I boarded a FCC 317 back to Peterborough at Finsbury Park and remember seeing the driver standing up and was I think was standing all the way to Peterborough.

I didn't think there was a problem, but it looked funny.

Now imagine an airline pilot doing the same!

You try sitting on your arse for a 10 hour shift and we will soon see if you are still sitting:P

I guess it's a pretty bad sign when even the driver has to stand up on a train. :)

365s are probably same set up driving controls as 165/166 fleet i drive and the seats are crap some blokes stand up just to stretch the legs the cabs can be a bit cramp if you are tall

I don't think this 158 frother understands this tho;)

You confusing me with a chap called David Broster he is the 158 nut and I do understand that sitting on your ass for 10 hours is not nice, you used the word "shift".

I like to mix it between sitting and standing, although in the No.2 (small) cab of a 153 I almost invariably stand up to drive.

Older trains such as 14x and 15x with tip-up driving seats are quite comfortable to stand to drive, you can perch on the edge of the tipped up base but I find newer 'pedestal' seats less 'standable'

On the note of the '10 hour shift' what driver do they think is in the seat for 10hrs at a time??? Glad I dont work for that company!

Interesting. What reason would there have been to fit tipping seats for the driver/guard back then?

Space I would have thought they dont have the roomiest of cabs, to be honest I prefer the tip-up seats to the pedestal seats
