I remember when the battle of the 965 in Otley went on and since it was getting ridiculous, the authority (I think WYCA) planned a meeting with both companies to sort it out. Connexions turned up, Transdev did not.

Wow, you actually believe the Connexions version of events!

Why would the WYCA have to “sort out” the 965, which in reality was very low level competition involving one vehicle from each operator, didn’t go on that long really, and is perfectly legal in the deregulated market.

Connexions need to stop all this childish behaviour. They also seem to think everything Transdev do is directly aimed at them. When they rebranded as ‘The Harrogate Bus Company’ they assumed it was a dig at them, failing to notice that Transdev rebranded all their companies in the same way. When Keighley unveiled the new green livery, they assumed it was to confuse passengers on the 62/X52 route, failing to notice that Keighley was already green and all the operations have had a new livery in the same style.

Yet at the same time are constantly demanding multi operator ticketing arrangements to be brought in, or for Connexions to be involved in Transdev open days and events.

If anything its Connexions who confuse passengers with "The Harrogate Bus Company!" plastered in blue vinyl lettering on some vehicles; not regulars obviously but visitors who are puzzled why having a bought a ticket on a red The Harrogate Bus Company vehicle cannot use it on one with the same name on it. If anyone cares to trawl back trough the thread they will note Connexions bought not only that company name to spite Transdevs rebranding but also bought the Harrogate & District Bus Company name just in case Transdev Blazefield use the actual name of their Harrogate operation on the side of vehicles, Harrogate & District Travel. Having two operators working the same or nearly the same route is barking enough, one and a bit using the same name is crackers.

That logo is tiny compared to the massive 'Connexions' on the side of the bus! Plus, remember that Connexions was originally called Harrogate Coach Travel. But I agree with you, it is bonkers.

I respect Connexions as a company but "buy local" "best of british" really does nothing for anyone, unless you're UKIP.

Bear in mind that you do get some Tory and Labour supporters who'll state the same regarding buy local and best of British, its not just UKIP though as a lot of people think.

If Connextions plastered "Buy British and support your local operator" on their buses, I'd see it as a way of encouraging people to buy local and support independant businesses - maybe Connextions have seen signs nailed up in the countryside stating Buy British and thought it was an idea to do the same, either way there's pros and cons to why they're doing it other than having a go at Transdev.

Its not that tiny and pretty prominent above the front door so being very obvious to anyone looking at the bus.

I'd disagree with that - it's not particularly noticeable.

Anyway they still use Harrogate Coach Travel on Omnicity 5147UA; they have been in the past Selby & District and oddly put Ripon City Buses on a vehicle when they were not working the Ripon City services

Ah, I see, I was thinking about the double deckers.
And on the new X70 timetable they have one of the saloons with THBC emblazoned on the cover. On the subject of which they have tweeted that its a "deliberate error" in response to someone questioning the teleporting of buses between Spoffoth and Wetherby.

To be honest, I didn't know enough about it. What's the other version of events, out of interest?

I think, quite simply, that there was no such meeting planned (that Transdev didn't bother with), and that WYCA discussed any issues directly with each operator.

Some of the accusations against Connexions in here are ridiculous. Transdev seem to get off with anything on this forum yet everyone jumps on the slightest thing Connexions do wrong.

There seem to be complaints and praise for both.

Which accusations strike you as ridiculous?

Transdev have started rebranding the 70/71 branded B7RLEs for the new 7. Wondering whether this will at last see the out of bus signs along the route in North Yorkshire replaced; they date from a time Transdev throught it good to list the services on the sign and list both the 770 and 771 at most stops along entire 70 route as at the time they put them up the 771 indicated a service via Thorpe Arch Industrial/Warehouse/Office Estate. Expect they will remove their signs from the Rudding Park-Follifoot-Spofforth route and their will be a delay of a couple of months until NYCC provide some replacements.

Connexions have revised their new timetable to acknowledge Spofforth-Wetherby, a 7 minute journey by all other services, cannot be done in 0 minutes by those running via Follifoot to Tadcaster but have timed those at 5 minutes and have no waiting time at Wetherby.

Had a little trip round today - a few comments in Leeds about the new "simple" 7 and it being confusing: "does that mean it goes to Alwoodley" and my personal favourite "can they go 6 months without renumbering it"!

Coming soon, the 36 to "simple 6", coastliner to "simple 8" and the 60 to "simple 0"?!

And the new x70 timetable to Wetherby is proving a little difficult to keep reliable. Saw two buses today arrive after they were due to depart, so have to load up and speed off straight away.

More likely with the MDs background at Wellgalde they drop the 60 and refer to it as Aireline and the (7)7(1) as something like Eclipse (based on the rough shape of the route. The 36 is too much of brand to be altered.

Made me laugh, I mean renumbering it so many times for no good reason is obviously going to cause confusion

If you think Transdev gets as many complaints as here than Connexions then you're obviously reading a different forum to me. Transdev can do nothing wrong at all in most peoples views (why I do not know) whilst everything Connexions does ever so slightly wrong is picked up upon, usually by the same couple of forum members (on here and other forums).

I didn't suggest they got the same number of complaints; merely that both get complaints. I've complained about both. However I've also had cause to praise Transdev. Again, which complaints strike you as ridiculous?

Connexions are route branding Tempos for the X1, overdone with union flags and hastags as seems the norm, but noticeably not 'The Harrogate Bus Company!' so maybe that squirmish with Transdev may be ending.

Well after all the posturing from the two companies over the Harrogate - Otley section, Transdev have now announced the 62 will now extend to Leeds Bradford Airport from 20/05/18:

From Sunday 20 May, you'll be able to fly with us on the 62 to Leeds Bradford Airport from Keighley, Steeton, Silsden, Ilkley, Menston & Otley - just in time for summer holiday season!

The newly-extended 62 will replace Wharfedale Links 967 between Menston, Otley, Pool-in-Wharfedale and the Airport with more bigger and better buses, running later into the evening.

An interesting move, I wonder what the boss at Connexions will be making of this?

They're going to be competing with Connexions less than now - the 62 will replace Transdev's 967 between Otley and Pool. The 62 being diverted means the route will be significantly different from the X52 between Ilkley and Otley though it sounds like it will be running at more times that the X52 doesn't.

Not to forget Connexions abandoned Ben Rhydding to Transdev in order that they could use a double decker on the X52.

It doesn’t really have any great impact on Connexions. It appears to be some rather sensible adjustments to commercial and tendered services to provide benefits to passengers, whilst also saving the tendering authority some money. Win, win surely!

If anything there is more competition between First and Connexions
From Pool to Otley (mins past hour generally)
21 Transdev currently (967)
49 Connexions (X52)
52 First (X85)
In the reverse direction
10 First (X85)
35 Transdev currently (967)
50 Connexions (X52)

Otley to Ilkley direct
00 Connexions (X52)
20 First (X84)
40 First (X84)
In the reverse direction
02 First (X84)
25 Connexions (X52)
c24-32 First (X84)
