A woman shot and wounded three people at YouTube's headquarters in Northern California before killing herself, police say.

A 36-year-old man left in a critical condition is believed to be the suspect's boyfriend, CBS news reports. Two women, 32 and 27, were also shot.

San Bruno Police Chief Ed Barberini said officers arrived at the scene at 12:48 (19:48 GMT) local time.

Officers found a "chaotic scene" with "numerous people fleeing", he said....

I did notice this story yesterday.

It says something about American gun culture that the only thing remotely surprising about people being shot in their workplace is the fact the crime was perpetrated by a woman!

I suppose it's also 'odd' that it's a customer rather than an (ex-)employee.

So, I'm no doubt going to be accused of a nice bit of victim shaming but here goes nothing.

Its tragic but reading the articles on it this seems like the almost inevitable end to the Adpocolypse and general cavalier attitude YouTube have had towards their content creators who are not pewdiepie and LoganPaul. They've been moving the goalposts, drying up ad revenue and telling no one anything about what they are doing. I follow a wide selection of channels of varying content and target and pretty much all of them mention the random demonitisation of videos with no understanding of why.

Combine hitting people's income, be it main or supplementary, especially those who have anything to do with firearms, and be based in the US, it's a tragic but not particularly shocking outcome that someone has snapped.

My thoughts too. From the Guardian:

"an FBI study of 160 “active shooter” incidents between 2000 and 2013 found only six incidents, or 3.8%, were perpetrated by a female shooter."

It's not victim shaming, but at the end of the day changes in market conditions don't give a seller the right to kill the buyer.

I never said it was anyones right, what I said is it isn't really a shock that someone has finally snapped and paid a visit.

Apologies. I didn't mean to imply that you said it was - I was trying to say present the counter-argument to anyone who thinks 'they had it coming'.

Is it time to talk about gun control in America or should we still be issuing thoughts and prayers?
Now isn't the time to be politicising the issue, we need to let the victims deal with their trauma. :|

Youtube gone crazy with demonetisation.
Still not the right thing to do still.

Depends on the shooter's skin colour.

edit: that's not my opinion but seems to the current state of affairs when it comes to shootings in the US - dark skinned people are terrorists but white people (especially far right) are mentally ill and needs #thoughtsandprayers

Apparently, she (the shooter) thought that Youtube were making her videos less visible. It wouldn't be the first case.

While her actions were over the top (and just plain wrong), it's hard to say that something wasn't coming Youtube's way.

Though it's worth noting that her videos were rather an acquired taste (and I'm being kind there). Some are still available online despite her channel being closed by YouTube, and they seem like the rants of someone suffering from some sort of mental illness.

That obviously doesn't excuse going on an armed rampage, but it does seem that perhaps universal background checks wouldn't be such a terrible idea. Improving mental-health care in the US would be nice too, but that's not realistic: it'll always be "cheaper" to put an ambulance at the bottom of the cliff, than to build a fence at the top.

Brilliant quote. Here's another one; You reap what you sow, and Facebook, Twitter, uber et al need to watch their backs. No, that's not a threat, its a prediction, because anti-Social Media is taking control and spreading hate.
