I note a lot of the recently transferred ex-FGW 150/1's are classed as stored/out of service. Is it known if this is because they are currently being refurbished/re-liveried/PRM-modded, or whether this is for compliance checks (or similar) before entering service with Northern, or is there some other reason?

The units with "$" are stored at their allocated depot pending entry to service, whilst those with "^" are currently out of service to receive PRM modifications, a repaint or a refurbishment.

I think that all the while there's a chance that they're going to end up on Northern's longer distance services, they should make them fit for that. If you're painting and re-upholstering them, why not add tables.

And if they've got time to replace seats on 158.'s and 156's, then they've got time to do a proper refurb on the 150's which actually need one.
Adding tables cost money , whose paying ?

I'm not really fussed. It should have been subsumed into one of the last two franchise agreements frankly.

If they can afford to replace seats, put in vacuum toilets and splash paint everywhere, they can afford to put in a few tables (and get rid of the hand dryers on 158's which haven't worked since the trains were built, yet inexplicably seem to survive every refurb and facelift).

Tables aren't the best on peak time services which are full and standing, and with the best will in the world that's going to be a reality for the foreseeable future. I've spoken on the 323 thread about my concerns regarding Connect-spec units to boost capacity on Airedale, and the same applies to services elsewhere.

Over the non-Connect fleet at large I'd have liked to see a reduction in airline seating for sure (and better spacing for the remainder), with perhaps half-tables as used to be found on the 4-CIGs...
An issue with that though is feet on seats of course!

It's bays of 4/6 which require extra space, rather than the tables themselves. If you have all the seats facing the same direction with table back seats then you have a higher density of seating than some trains which don't have any form of tables.

I don't really agree with the point regarding peak time services, as the TPE services around here can be some of the busiest peak time services in the region, and it's really not the tables that cause the issues.

I agree with half tables such as the CIG's. Those 150's have facing seats already, so the addition of half tables would have no bearing on the propensity for people to put feet on seats.

I think train operators particularly Northern with its cramped seating policy need to watch out from the bus operators.
Harrogate Leeds on this or knees under your chin 155 etc.

The 36s are probably the best appointed buses in West Yorkshire. However, as pointed out above they are still just buses, they still have to fight their way through Leeds traffic and soon they will be competing with 170s, 195s and even 800s. Plus this standard of bus isn't going to be applied to most routes, just ones where the operators think they can make enough money to justify them.

Northern have got all the 150s they were supposed to get from GWR (except 125, 126 & the two 150/2 halves, which should arrive soon)
150 125 is currently on works at wabtec but it’s going back to gwr in the blue livery , don’t think it moves north till next year
