They are the same seats that are used on GWR and same in First class, the only hope is that there might be more leg room for a 4 hour run up to Inverness.

Should be quite comfy then. I've never found the leg room on the 170s that bad really.

The problem with the Grammar seats are there is visibility as they are so tall from my experience as I travel on GWR HST's a lot on bashes. I have been on a Scotrail 170 and the seats I think are the same on the Chiltern 168/3, but the leg room is plentiful.

I tend to agree with you. I dislike the GWR HST interior because it feels cramped with poor legroom. It looks like Scotrail are going to rectify that and despite the high backed seats and the fact that they aren't too comfy I'm sure that I'll enjoy traveling on them. It looks like a good job has been done.

Just a quick note though, the 168/3 legroom is appalling for someone of my height

I agree with you there it will still be a Tram so it wont be bad. Looking at the photos it appears that First class is bigger than it seems as they where having MK3 TSB (402xx) coaches which only have about 10 seats in them.

I think the ex-TSB TFB seat 23 First if I remember rightly. The ScotRail TFC will seat 30.

I use them regularly for 3 hours at a time and find the legroom excellent - and I'm 6'6".

How odd. I've always found the legroom poor but I tend to be travelling with someone sitting next to me so that may be it. It's particularly poor at the tables when someone's sitting opposite you I find.

That's very true, I avoid the tables for that reason. Still, ScotRail's getting some excellent trains!

Totally agree with this that is a major upgrade on a 170. As a regular Inverness to Gaksgiw/ Edinburgh traveler this is most welcome. They are very good trains.

Agreed on power sockets like that being a pain, but then again the interior shots look to be renders, so who knows if they paid enough attention to detail to use the right design of socket faceplate!

Indeed not real photo's so I guess we have to see what reality is like.

Presumably the two 43s went down to Wabtec to be joined to, and test with, the first rake of coaches. That suggests that the first coaches are ready. Any idea when we can expect them back?

ScotRail have confirmed that while they are retaining the GWR seats, they are being repositioned however.

I know they have said the pitch will be better, hopefully it is. The High-density GWR layout is very cramped.

The leg room in the GWR sets is fine; it's the lack of tables that is the real issue and the resulting claustrophobic feel of rows and rows of "tombstones".

Not sure why this subject has come up again now, as the seating layouts for the ScotRail sets were published on here sone time ago.

I found the legroom rather tight personally, I'm 6' 3".

Yes I think it will be based on more bays of 4 which is good, hope they line up with the windows better.

I've found the legroom to be good, and I'm well over 6', the legroom on the airline seats is much better than the original layout

Perhaps it has changed? My last journey on a GWR (then FGW) HST was in 2012 on a High-density set.

Scotrail is increasing the legroom to 1800mm, which I believe is the same as the Turbostars.

I think the bigger difference will be how one sits and the length of your legs between your hips and knees. I think that is a big reason why even people of the same height can find the same seat totally different in comfort.

Quite probably, but as the ScotRail trailers are being reseated to a longer-distance layout anyway I think the legroom will be greatly improved.

Works in this case refers to the Brush works at Loughborough, not the scope of what is being done.

These are off-lease from GWR, but were immediately taken on lease by ScotRail. They are ScotRail power cars and not off-lease now.

All the vehicles that have left GWR so far are Angel Trains owned - the ScotRail fleet will consist entirely of Angel vehicles.

The ownership swap between First and Porterbrook is for retained GWR vehicles that are getting the door and PRM modifications.

The plan is for GWR to have no full size HST’s in service by March next year. Although this may change depending on how staff training on IET’s goes this year.
