Hello all,
I am writing a paper discussing the privatisation of British Rail and its effects. I am currently searching for customer satisfaction statistics of the British Rail era (preferable the later years shortly before privatisation, but generally, anything would be good) that I could possibly compare with the results of the National Rail Passenger Survey. I could not find anything yet, so I am now asking you whether you know of any statistics.

Many thanks in advance,
Simon

I believe the BR board published annual reports. These may contain passenger satisfaction statistics.

Doubt it - you might care to rack through the comments on John Majors "Customer Charter" (for most of the network)

Network Southeast (of very blessed memory) produced a range of customer satisfaction levels - try the book "The Network Southeast Story" - which contains much useful material.

The wonderful transition to a privatised railway (see Wolmar et al) , was not exactly life changing to many of the daily users ....

I am not sure that BR carried out any such surveys on a national scale - at least I can't remember any! There may well have been localised surveys for particular lines or groups of services - as I seem to remember the results of such a survey on people's reaction to the newly electrified service to Liverpool and Manchester being published shortly after the service started, probably late 1966 or early 1967.

As ChiefPlanner states in #3, nationwide surveys probably post-date John Major's Citizens Charter of 1991, so I don't think the data you are looking for even exist!

Thank you all for your answers. If the data does not exist, I cannot do anything about. I already wrote too much though, so that is not too bad. Thanks anyways.

Good luck with your studies - or reports - I know how hard it is to keep the words down on a paper !
