On Sat 10th March due to various engineering works Lime Street-Victoria services will be diverted to Oxford Road and joined on to the truncated Oxford Rd-Hazel Grove services. One diagram will be 2 x 150s (and will include a Buxton extension on one service) and the rest will be 319s.

Electrics to Hazel Grove?

Is that more common than it used to be?

I think Saturday was the first time 319s worked services to Hazel Grove, although some services were cancelled. The Piccadilly-Chinley evening peak service was truncated at Hazel Grove a couple of years ago so that a 323 could be used (freed up by putting a 319 on the Airport shuttle.)

From experience the electrification of the stub from Stockport always seemed like a waste of resources.

As I can't ever remember getting an electric unit going there.

There is peak 323 that terminates at Hazel Grove every weekday evening at about 17:45

Totally worth the expense then.:p

The route was wired in 1981 - at that time there were some electric trains that ran Altrincham-Sale-Manchester-Hazel Grove, of course that's no longer possible now.

By my reckoning:
1981 to late 2008 - standard pattern of 1 electric train starting and terminating at Hazel Grove every hour
Late 2008 to mid 2018 - no regular electric trains to Hazel Grove due to an insufficient number of EMUs available at the December 2008 recast Northern decided to run diesel services from Hazel Grove to Preston, instead of an electric shuttle from Hazel Grove to Manchester.
Mid 2018 onwards - standard pattern of 2 electric trains starting and terminating at Hazel Grove every hour
