Hi all

I was on the WMT Euston to Crewe service at 1446 yesterday (Friday) and it was heaving, at least till Rugby.

Are there any times of day when that service is actually quiet?

It's a big saving over the Virgin fare but I'm not sure if it's worth it if you can't get a double seat to make the journey vaguely pleasant :)

Thanks!

There is no time of day when you can reliably get a double seat to yourself and quite frankly considering that would make the service no more than 50% loaded I think it would be a failure of the franchisees pricing for it to be reliably that empty.

Thanks both, I was expecting to pay for my fare saving through a longer journey time, just not also through a miserable passenger experience - I'll stick to Virgin in future :(

The 14:46 on another weekday would probably have been less busy, but it was a Friday which tends to be different with passenger flow in the afternoons (i.e. commuters finishing early to allow them to catch an earlier train home). I would imagine a few passengers would change at rugby for a LNWR service towards Birmingham as it saves them time if they have "LNWR only" tickets [compared to going via Northampton]. I've certainly done so when on the old "LM Great Escape" tickets.

Also I would imagine the 14:46 is one of the last services where some tickets are valid (Super off-peak), so it will be busier. But at least you didn't get the luxury of a 350/2

All Euston trains are very quiet outside of the immediate rushhour with trains 3/4 empty at least. Of course that is what the Stop HS2 campaign have told me.

Really not true for the xx46 Trent Valley/Crewe departure. Leaves with most seats taken (at least) at all times of day.
