10th - 11th, so this week. No railcard, need 2 tickets getting there for the afternoon and leaving after 11am on Sunday if anyone can help?
If you can accept fixed-train tickets (Advance), TrainSplit recommends getting
the following tickets, splitting at Birmingham New Street, Derby, Chesterfield and Leeds on the outbound, the same on the return except not splitting at Birmingham. That would be £82.60 return for both of you (find the tickets through TrainSplit but then book through
www.crosscountrytrains.co.uk in order to avoid the 10% TrainSplit commission on the split ticket savings and in order be able to change the time or type of your tickets for free - elsewhere this costs £10/ticket!)
Given the ticket prices, you would actually save by getting a
Two Together Railcard. This gives you a 34% discount when travelling together, after 09:30 Monday-Friday, or anytime on weekends. It costs £30 for a year, and can currently be bought for 10% less using discount code SEARCH10. This means that you are already saving with this one journey (as it costs £27 and you are saving £28). Your tickets are then just £54.60 and you can save on future travel with the same person this year.
There may well be cheaper ways to book this, but at the moment it seems like the best option, having checked my other (private) resources!
