Buses in the UK outside London with very few exceptions only have one door!

Yes, I just realised you mentioned exactly that in your first post :p

With the increasing use of stored value cards there is starting to be a push for boarding at both doors.

But if you board at both doors you need to start having revenue protection inspectors, as in much of Europe.

I made a faux pas in Warsaw by boarding a bus at the front door. And was just in Copenhagen where I didn't notice anybody boarding from anywhere but the front, yet someone got caught with a non-checked-in Rejsekort.

You already have them a bit in NZ. I've caught a bus in Wellington several times where an inspection person has come through making sure everyone had a valid ticket or tagged on properly. They would probably have to increase such staff but the core is already there.
