Extra Gold Card record card available?

I've got a annual paper season ticket as a Gold card paper ticket and I've just realised there might be an issue when buying tickets for travel to airports if I don't want to take the physical Gold Card with me. It's probably the most expensive thing I own at the moment and I don't want any issues with it potentially getting stolen/damaged when I'm abroad next month as I'll be travelling in some fairly run down areas. I don't need the season ticket to get to or from the airport as our line is shut all weekends when I'll be travelling in the UK and I'll be buying a ticket for a different line and the tube. Is there any way of getting an extra Gold record card that isn't my actual ticket? I thought about using the Oyster card with Gold card discount in the parts of my journey where that's valid, but presume I'd still need to show proof of Gold card if challenged?

Just realised I had no idea if it's even possible or I just need to suck it up and pay full fare. Thanks in advance.

You could buy a Network Railcard for yourself for £10 with your Gold Card (assuming you haven't already purchased a railcard for someone else) but whether this is worth it depends on how much your fare to Gatwick Airport is.

That's a point, thanks. Everyone I know has a Gold card and the difference between full fare and Gold card fare is about £18, so may do that.

TOCs suggest you insure your gold card but since this is treated as ‘cash’ by most insurers there’s usually a low maximum limit for cash lost or stolen. Are there any specialist gold card insurance deals?
