Currently the 12 cars are prohibited North of Cambridge, and the 8 cars are prohibited North of Cambridge North, so they won't go to Ely at the moment.

I think the third rail shoes needing clearance is one of the issues.

Ah,ok,they worried shoes might fall off again, but surely they resolved that already?

To those wondering about the diagrams, they were changed at the last minute (hence why they're not matching up). Will post the latest version tonight.

Station staff at my local station were lynched yesterday apparently. Not enough seats and uncomfortable seats, plus people found the 700s noisy and cold.

The 0736 from Stevenage was like a sauna this morning, not just an odd carriage either.

GTR/DfT deserve all the flack they’re getting about the interior of these trains.

It's rather amusing that the rollout of Undesiros on GN has coincided with the media picking up on the general theme of ironing boards. And, as you rightly say, the flack is very much deserved.

Ended up not taking this service as delays meant I would have missed my connection, so will this still be a 700 tomorrow?

Can you confirm 1st class on GN 8 car 700 is only in operation at the front (like TL),12 car has 1st class in operation at both ends(not like TL?,a lot of confusion)?

https://twitter.com/gnrailuk/status/965999949614845952, confusion resolved
Just to confuse things again, on the preview services First Class will only be in operation at the front  To make it a bit easier those services will be classed as Thameslink services, whilst the 12 car 700s that go into Kings Cross will remain Great Northern (with First class front and back!).

No change though, that’s how it is was planned to be(TL service so rear 1st is/will be declassified)now, the 8 car GN rear 1st IS declassed.

Got this morning's 0756 Cambridge-King's Cross. Impressive load (most seats taken and a handful of standing passengers) given that as recently as Friday it was only a 4-car 387.

RPIs were out on it - probably the first time in a good long while they've been able to make it through the train!

This evening the 1712 Kings Cross to Peterborough at Platform 11 and the 17:22 to Cambridge at platform 10 were both 700s seen in the station together.
As the 17:22 departed I could see that there were a number of empty seats near the front. Then a lot of people standing near the middle of the train.
Towards the back there were several people walking forwards along the train. Both 1st class sections were almost empty.

(I was viewing this from the front coach of the 17:23 at Platform 9 which fortunately was 2x365 !)

It took, what, six months or so for passenger behaviour to change on TL? I am sure people will dare experiment with where they board eventually.

Careful drivers! Yesterday I saw 700050 waiting in platform 11 at King's Cross to form 1P70, the 1842 King's Cross to Peterborough. The concourse end coupler was literally a hair's width from the 'stop' sign positioned on a post in the four foot. Presumably, 1 mm further and it would technically have been a 'SPAD'? It struck me that the driver of a 700 is sat further back from the windscreen than on say a class 317, 365 or 387 and in addition, the sloped front means that the coupler face is further still from the driver's seated position. I guess this means that the drivers will need to be careful when using their normal visual cues to line up with the correct stopping mark without over doing it. One for the instructor drivers to point out, I guess...

The situation regarding first class and declassification on the 700s seems to be a hot topic on the GN Twitter feed, today.

Not sure why there’s so much confusion, as it’s all perfectly clear. You just need to know the length of your train; the ultimate destination; the GTR brand under which it’s operating, and whether the branding of the train matches the branding of the nominal operator.

The rear first class on the train I travelled on today was declassified, but only one passenger was in it, while the standard class in that coach was packed. I also got a few stares as I went to sit in the declassified part.

Interesting piece in the paper today (Times) about complaints of seating comfort by passengers in not only the 700's but GW IEP's as well. Apparently design was because of fire and anti grafiti standards. RSSB to look at new protocols. So perhaps in a decade or so the problems of comfort will be resolved!

Lol,gn now say both 8&12 car 700’s rear is declassed! Source:https://twitter.com/gnrailuk/status/966613772998672384. ,changed again
Interesting.. as far as staff are concerned the GN 12 Car 700s are still First at both end. Different staff on the Twitter Team seem to be giving out different info which isn’t helping passengers at all. Unless things have changed today and only Twitter have been told then only the TL Preview services have the rear declassified.

Hopefully it will be correct then this can be sorted for good.

I saw the thread on Twitter and it would seem that common sense is to just do it on ALL trains, GN or TL, 8 or 12 car. To do anything different would be silly, as not everyone will count how many coaches there are (or know how to check when onboard).

I said all along that it would be confusing, but never imagined just how confusing it could become for staff and passengers alike!

There are due to be 700's working this Sunday 25th with all Mainline GN services diverted the Hertford Loop. I forgot to take down the details earlier inclusive of carriage workings. If someone else doesn't beat me too it. I'll pass on the information when i return to work in the morning.

That's good given there's going to be a lot more patronage of the line given the buses from Ally Pally to Stevenage on the ECML.

No trains on Saturday OR Sunday this weekend!

Passengers for Arlesey using the northbound 8-car 700 services will have to get used to boarding the middle of these trains rather than the front as on the 2x365/2x387 services if they want a quick exit at the station. The 365s and 387s stop just in line with the exit for the western car park close to the footbridge, whereas the 8-car 700s stop at the 12-car marker further down the platform. I spotted this today when I caught the 1447 from Stevenage back to Arlesey (1422 ex-KGX, which was run by 700049 if anyone was interested).

Hi,

Looking at services this coming Monday afternoon from ST Pancras I notice that, 9S39 (ex Cambridge) departs at 1523 to Brighton Arriving 1642.

According to RTT it’s booked as a class 365 Great Northern, I can only assume this is just a timing load and a 700 will most likely turn up?

Also why the 9xxx headcode ?

Thanks.

It's not booked 365, that's the timing load not the booked traction

All Thameslink services will be Class 9 from the start of the May timetable. As this is a preview service and to help the signaller these will run as Class 9.
