There are problems for services this afternoon at Leeds, with lots of services currently delayed due to a failure at the western throat. Just leaving on 2H52 15:56 Leeds-Skipton we've passed a 150 (203 I think) that seems to have sat down just outside the station. ETA on NR for normal service resumption is 17:45.

That might explain why the delay is estimated for another couple of hours. I must admit I'd didn't notice it being uncoupled but we were past it before I looked properly. It looks newly refurbished too, I wonder if its due a trip back to the works to look at the problem?

Edit: Looking at OpenTrains it seems to be 2L38 14:06 Sheffield to Leeds that has the problem.

Service was the 2U29. Manchester Victoria - Leeds which has apparently divided on approach to Leeds, blocking routes D&E.

Ah right, it looked like it might have been the Sheffield one as that seemed to be sitting at Leeds West on OpenTrains for quite a while. Thanks for the clarification .

Just passed on the 1626. Looks like it has split.

Seems a good service is still running on the airdale lines. I thought I'd be stuck for a while at Leeds but after fighting through the crowds waiting for a man pic train on 5 i got myself a seat on the Skipton train with two minutes to spare which is rather unusual.

I am currently on 1V64 (XC Edinburgh to Plymouth). Sat for 20 outside Neville Hill. Which I was happy with.
We are number 5 in the queue according to the TM. Only seen 1 train depart East towards Neville Hill in the last 25 minutes.

I assume we will be routed down ‘F’ anyway when the time comes. I’m en route to Sheffield but luckily in no rush.
One block at a time it seems.

3 tweets 3 descriptions of problem, why could all three not be honest like TPE? Does this sort of lack of coordination just not create confusion and the impression of confusion?

All three are honest.

Does it really matter to an average person? Most wont know what a coupler is or its relevance.

Where as an operational incident or train fault (which are both correct) is easier to understand.

If only the Skipton - Colne line was still open, the Manchester crowds would have been able to get there that way ! :D

Let’s not get started on “operational incident” either. I noticed TPE said plainly what happened and nobody died of shock.

Indeed, it's being repeated on the PA every 30 seconds at Huddersfield as every late train is announced with the apology and reason.

Didn't 150203 have some other problem not long after coming back from refurb?

I'm in no way say it the refurb quality etc is plagued but I'd certainly say northern aren't having much luck with it..

You can't paint a turd and all that..

I was stuck in the queue outside Leeds for an hour. Guard told us the problem was a split train. Now on 20 mins delayed Airedale service. Delay Repay time!

German ICE this morning had no such problems...

Here is another photo which is doing the round on social media (again not my photo) - Clicky!

From this it looks like the two halves have got some distance from each other! Also seems to confirm it is 150203

How does a DMU function when split in two, as of course both halves have some sort of power, I'm assuming automatic brakes would or should come on?

Brake continuity should go causing an emergency brake application (I presume there is also something to cut the power if continuity is lost there too)

That photo might have been captured during recovery, the other twitter stream

scroll though

shows the two vehicles being recovered into the station separately.

Ah, OK. I can't view your link as not on Twitter, but I think you're right

I have since read the front half was taken into Leeds station (pl 11B possibly) and the rear half separately propelled in too. I believe all lines may be open again

Ironically, the one fast train that stops at my local station in the evening, was delayed long enough for me to catch it. I actually got there half an hour earlier.

Wasn't helped by passengers detraining themselves...
