Filton (Junction) station - date of closure

Does anyone know when Filton station closed?

This is the station previously known as Filton Junction, just to the north of Station Rd, that was replaced by Filton Abbeywood.

Filton Abbeywood opened 11/3/1996 (I think!), but there was a short period when both were open due to some sort of legal challenge to its closure.

And, linked to this, the CRS code for both stations is/was FIT. How were they differentiated on CRS while they were both open?

The Wikipedia page states that the opposite is true, and that the last train called at Filton Jn on 8/3/1996, with a short gap of no service at all due to a Severn Tunnel closure. However, it doesn't provide a source for that date, so I'm inclined to take it very much with a pinch of salt.

I'm thinking the thought process behind that entry could well be "new station opened 11/3, line shut over the weekend so last train must have been 8/3", without the writer knowing there was an overlap?

We did this with Smethwick Galton Bridge and Smethwick West; opened the former and reduced the service at Smethwick West to one train a week. Then instituted closure proceedings on Smethwick West. Doing it this way prevents any legal challenge under the Railways Act to the change.
