SVR/Chiltern to London direct

Direct to London from Bridgnorth - August 15th...
Chiltern Railways and the Severn Valley Railway are pleased to be working together to provide you with the first ever direct train from Bridgnorth and Bewdley to London Marylebone on Saturday 15th August.

The train will leave Bridgnorth at 0745 and will also serve local Severn Valley Railway stations. It will arrive at London, Marylebone at 1159.

Ian Baxter, General Manager North at Chiltern Railways and a local resident said: "This will be an excellent way for people in and near the Severn Valley to travel with Chiltern Railways and enjoy a day out in London. Nick Ralls, General Manager SVR, said: "We are very pleased to offer this service in conjunction with Chiltern Railways and I hope that it will lead to future partnerships with Chiltern".

Im intregued on how this will run - with 67's & Mk3s or 168's...but hope this goes well for Chiltern, and that it leads to some London to Bridgnorth services...

It'll most likley be a 168

It will be 168, they joined two of them together for the Shrewsbury special
to Wembley in May, organised by sister Company W/S.

They will probably run a test a week prior or so, don't know whether an 8 car could
fit onto platforms?

There has already been a test run to Bridgenorth with a class 168 a couple of months back.

and the boss of Chiltern lives on the line, I now expect more Chiltern presence
on the 7 V R.

I am also told 168s are cleared to run to Wrexham, wish we had a Football League team again , like the old days when we beat Arsenal in the qtr final
BR laid on 3 specials to Wrexham, 2 via Chester, 1 via Shrewsbury, ah well
one lives in Hope and dies in Caergwle as we say here (both on the Borderlands
line Wrexham to 3rd rail land)

The test run took place back in March so well before this little jolly was advertised, as for more Chiltern presence there already are a number of Chiltern staff who volunteer at the SVR, in fact the test run was crewed by SVR staff who are also chiltern staff.

Thanks for that, we have W/S staff volunteering/driving at Llangollen,pity the line is cut forever from Ruabon.

I think your memory is playing tricks on you! I was there that day and it was a third round tie in early January 1992! You may be confusing this with our 1/4 final defeat to Chesterfield in 1997.

Yes you are correct, it the third round, I recall the next days papers header
I think it was the Sunday Mirror "The moment Arsenal died of Shame"
Was there not a row about the snow covered pitch,Arsenal moaning about it,but the ref saying get on with it.

Three specials came up from London, two via Chester and one via Shrewsbury.

I don't think the pitch was covered for that game but it definitely was for the 1-1 draw against West Ham in '97 which made them complain! They didn't have an excuse when we beat them at Upton Park though! lol
