There is no permitted route from Cambridge into Euston on a London Terminals ticket.

There never has been and unlikely to ever be one.

Was there any benefit to passengers for it being in the list, which has now gone?

I see that Aberdeen has gone from eight London terminals (clockwise: Paddington, Marylebone, Euston, St Pancras ,Kings Cross, Moorgate, Old Street, Liverpool Street ) to just three ( Kings Cross, Moorgate, Old Street) - I've not had time to look closely but there seem to be many similar changes.

There are still mapped routes into the other five terminals so why have these been removed?

Aberdeen - Sheffield - St Pancras would definitely seem "reasonable" to me.
As does Aberdeen - Glasgow - Euston via the WCML [as well as changing at Birmingham for a Chiltern to Marylebone].

Yes, and similarly...

Aberdeen to Paddington is traceable on map combination GA+PG.
Aberdeen to Liverpool Street is traceable on map AA.

( Though I haven't been able to nudge the latter from a journey planner yet. )

AFAIK these are all long-standing, reasonable routes and - fortunately -they are still permitted.

RDG ( http://data.atoc.org/london-terminals ) say that the

"[the terminals data] identifies the valid London railway stations for any fare which is advertised with a destination of 'London Terminals'".

As indigo2 pointed out upthread the terminals data does not form part of the contract between passenger and the TOCs but the very least this very misleading ( unless I've missed something?)

I can get itineraries into Liverpool Street by avoiding Euston and Avoiding Alexandra Palace.

Or even just a via point of Audley End seems to work fine, on https://ticket.southernrailway.com/ at least.

Thanks, yes - I couldn't get via Cheshunt to work on trainscanbecheaper - but it works fine on southernrailway .

The last-but-one terminals file (16/12/2017) gave London terminals for 2546 stations

Looking at those stations in the latest version (13/01/2018) and aggregating across routes for each station...

418/2546 now have no terminal defined ?? (e.g Blackburn,Bradford,Buxton)
1012/2546 have at least one terminal but fewer than before.
820/2546 same number of terminals.
296/2546 have more terminals defined.

I'm wondering if that points to a problem with the data? (Or have I misinterpreted the file?)
