Trivia: Appalling stations next to better stations

Definitely Folkestone Central is good. Central is useful is more useful as it is closest to the town centre. West is useful for people who live in the houses near by but is an annoying extra stop for everyone else on the train which is bad.

I'll throw Perth and Gleneagles into the ring; two perfect examples on how to and how not to upkeep old station infrastructure to a presentable and usable standard.

Other examples I can think of are;

You beat me to it. I suspect most London terminals have very poor close in adjacent stations. The question is whether the "better" station is excellent, good or "slightly less appalling".

Quite a few of these on Trans-Pennine North. Huddersfield and Deighton or Dewsbury and Ravensthorpe being the more stark contrasts.

For Newcastle the comparison with Manchester and Ardwick is Central and Manors - an exposed platform with no facilities, essentially no services (and no real reason to carry on existing?)

Hooton and Capenhurst.
Hooton is staffed, heated waited rooms, massive car park and has 6 trains an hour to Liverpool off peak, 4 an hour to Chester and 2 an hour to Ellesmere Port.
Capenhurst basically has 2 platforms, 2 bus type waiting shelters and is unstaffed with a small dark car park. With only 2 trains an hour in either direction.

Canforth is hardly an appalling station since it was regenerated. And it’s quite obvious that a small town/village on a branch line gets a reduced service compared to a neighbouring city on the WCML. I’d argue Carnforth is well connected for its size, having direct trains to both Manchester and Leeds.
