Women Train Enthusiasts?

Hello, if ya don't mind me putting me opinion in...

Firstly; I'm impressed - imfamous mentioning!! (LOL) - but I think with this enthusiasm lark that it is exactly the same as men - I was bought up from the word go with railway bits around me and was taken down the station to watch the freight/hsts/tpo etc (I originate from Cornwall) - from young age I wanted to be a train driver then when school got in the way it ebbed off a bit. College came along and I could no longer be bothered to go since 37s were on Sandite! So, joined a pressy railway and it's got worse(!) from there. I do find, and it does get very annoying, when other blokes will be there and assume you know nothing and won't even talk to you at all. If I'm out with mates they'll always talk to them and I may as well be a blank space. Once the said person has worked out you know what you're talking about then it's fine. At work a lot of the SWT train staff have heard I'm a 'spotter' as they call it and that's not been so bad. I, as you well know, do a lot of photography when I can and do a lot of rail tours. Coach A 37 tours' folks will recognise me I'm sure!!
I dunno, why do people like a lot of things eh?

As for no attractive female enthusiasts... well, I hardly see any female enthusiasts on my travels tbh, there are a couple I see around York/Peterborough... back to the original quote, it's funny cos I'm fairly popular with people (and no I'm not blowing my trumpet and saying I'm 'attractive' !!! Anyone who knows me, knows I wouldn't say that) but from my point of view - how many male enthusiasts are attractive?? Erm... not many can count em on one hand - but they're nice enough people!
Yes, there's been a thing with a 'Weasel' and no, never call me Mrs Weasel as I'm not 'attached' to him at all, I'm my own person/enthusiast and besides if/when I finish up with him then what do ya call me?!

Anyway, I rabbit on so any opinion gen is fine!

I was on a Cardiff-Swansea rugex in early 2007 behind 50049. Myself and Jordy were stood in the front vestibule of the Mk2 when an elderly woman made her way up to the vestibule. She got to the end and peered through the small window of the connection door at the 50. We were expecting her to say something like "Oh I thought there were some more coaches further up" but instead she turned around to us and said "it's nice to see a 50 back on the trains again!" hock:

I am not, never have been, hope never to become a trainspotter, I dont do numbers, classes or anything like that....but I will defend anyone's right to do that sort of thing if that's what they wish to do. I dont class myself as a rail enthusiast although I'm enthusiastic about rail as an industry and sensible mode of transport. I will photograph trains, planes and automobiles as I wish but dont think I fit any stereo-type!!
As for the ladies, you are perfectly welcome, more power to you if you can make it in a blokes world and succeed! Just get slightly worried by the other thread elsewhere regarding the shirt-lifters and ar*e-ticklers....

Sadly for 37401, if that's what you're looking for, I think 90019 is likely to have more luck in that respect - and that isn't a reflection on your "pulling power"!



I suspect the sort of enthusiasts SE-465 is referring to are the more visible ones, such as those you see out and about photographing, linesiding. spotting and bashing.

Something else I've just picked up on is the 'reader profile' of one of the major magazines (Railway Magazine) - 99% of its readers are male! See http://www.ipcmedia.com/mediainfo/railway.pdf

I have been reading the RM since early 2007,and out of all the letters sent and shown in the magazine since 2007 "Barbara" is the only one I have noticed,and shes in her late 70s!

I think you mean grammar IIRC, grammer is a type of seat found on trains, I think the FGW HST seats in SC are and the EMT 158s.

hmm just been reading alot of your posts latley (the ones where you comment on me) just wondering what have I ever said or done to you for you to post negative comments about me, you know nothing about me so id like to hear why you are posting remarks about me. also for the record nor does 90019 so the "doubtfull" comment was not personal.

there is only about 5 people I know that can make remarks when it comes down to attraction ect.. so ill only let them make those remarks

when I said "arnt we all" I was joking, im not planning on landing myself a stunning entusiast and doubt I ever will enthusiast or not.

Female enthusiasts will always be chased by the males because they simply are not a common thing.

Yeah, I mean she's not the only female enthusiast in the State, although she was the only young girl there. Quite a stunner too, so no wonder they were all after her!

If a young enthusiast can hook up with a female enthusiast imagine the life they would live? haha.

If there were attractive young enthusiasts many of the guys out there would start hoping abit to much.
Personally Im just hoping that if I have get married and start a family the lucky lady will be supportive of my hobby.

I have to say that it's quite entertaining to watch people's reactions when I take out my SLR and start framing a shot. It doesn't matter what the subject is - railways, street scenes or (as this weekend) the Bournemouth Air Festival - people in general just don't seem to be used to female photographers (even though there are a lot of us around, that's not the stereotype I guess).

I doubt enthusiasts (as a group) are any different in that regard - hence threads like this.

Mind you I'm also an engineer and that blows people's minds from time to time too!

People seem shocked by anyone who doesn't use a cameraphone nowadays let alone an Slr user.

I'm a photographer too, and I'm male, and I get plenty looks still.

When I bashed the Paigton HST from Wolverhampton-BHM (when the summer sat timetable started) as we flew past one of the stations I got a flail back from a female, she was quite nice looking too
