Could have been out of hours or very close to it?

Unless it was needed urgently at Barton (only Wolverhampton Drivers go there) and the reason given is a fudge?

More to the point, what happened to the passengers? From what I can see on RTT the next service forward would have got them to Euston over an hour late, as the only southbound WML service from Nuneaton is the LM (sorry, West Midlands) semi-fast, a stopper compared with what they were turfed off.
(In the circumstances it's good to see that they weren't delayed more, as there would have been a half-hour wait for the slower train forward.)

Looks like the following service 1A20 11:35 Manchester - Euston stopped specially at ~12:50. Was 1.5 mins late at Lichfield but then 8 late at Rugby. Also 1U20 11:37 Crewe - Euston departed 12:59 but as a 4 car 350 might have been crowded

Seems strange, there was a driver to take it to Barton immediately after the passengers were turfed off.

Technical failure and an incorrect delay code?
Just because someone was able to take it to Central Rivers doesn't mean they could take it elsewhere...

They might have been booked for relief at Nuneaton, not prepared to do London and back on overtime (or not permitted for various reasons) and agreed to go ECS to depot instead of heading there on the cushions. That's just one scenario.
Agreed that a crew change at Nuneaton sounds unusual, but it was Christmas Eve!

Yes, very strange. I happened to be driving past at the time and was surprised to see a voyager sitting there. Must've been planned as the turnaround time was only about 10 minutes. I wonder if the passengers were told well in advance?

Is Nuneaton usually a calling point for this train, as most Chester - Euston services seem to run non-stop between Crewe and Milton Keynes?

Voyagers do call at Nuneaton on a daily basis, and I think this is one. Looking at RTT I've realised that weekdays and saturday 1A19 is a MAN-EUS service and Sundays it is Holyhead to Euston, unless I've messed up my search?
EDIT - I searched for my nearest junction and not Nuneaton again... need to stop doing that. Yes, 1A19 is a usual Sunday stopper

Starts at Chester on a Sunday.
