Were 001nd 002 ever meant to go north? I thought they were being kept at GW anyway as they are non standard in terms of fuel capacity and therefore achievable mileage. Regarding differences, the engines are different to the rest of the 15x fleet being NT855R4 units as opposed to NT855R5 and the crew doors are sliding type like 150/2 and of course the units are 3 car and had air con while classified class 154, but are there any other major differences? Why were slam crew doors used on 150/1 which followed?

As has already been said a million times Angel agreed to lease all their 150/1s and 150/0s to Northern, including 12 carriages the current GWR franchise don't plan to release moving in 2019, as confirmed in the Northern franchise agreement. However, GWR had a clause in their lease which states it's automatically extended if the franchise is extended. Angel must have forgotten about it or thought DfT wouldn't extend the GWR franchise again.

People who constantly keep saying things like the 150/0s weren't due to transfer because they were painted green are talking rubbish.

A list was posted in Post #2207 including these in a list of 150s to be transferred to Northern. This was queried when the previous such post was posted. I got the impression that many people up North had the impression they were moving to Northern

How else would Northern had got the 2 x fixed 3 car 150s and 16 x hybrid sets the franchise agreement mentioned? 'Those up North' had evidence the original plan was for them to go to Northern in 2019, those in the South West thought they were staying because a senior manager employed by the current GWR franchise (due to end in 2019) said green trains would stay.

150 001 and 002 have both had the 400gallon tanks fitted to bring them in line with the others , they have had a full interior refresh so I imagine there staying at reading depot

They left Reading many months ago and are at PM, with 01 only working when it feels like it. It was out of action from July to November waiting parts which had to be specially manufactured due to it's Prototype uniqueness, Since it's been back in traffic it only manages to work for a couple of days at a time.

I was fairly sure that there was something said somewhere that the 150/0s would be retained by GW, I therefore did a bit of a search and came up with an article entitled "How the West will win with new trains" from 15/04/15 and an interview that Rail magazine held with Andy Mellors, who is/was FGW engineering director. It says that the 150/0 units are being retained, and that PRM modifications can be done on the units and that they will offer three-car capacity on the Exeter route among other things. I wasn't aware that this had changed but maybe it has (a few years have passed since the interview). Looking at the franchise document 46 Angel owned 150 vehicles are being transferred to Northern (pre the supposed alteration of GW maybe keeping some) which makes up 40 150/1 vehicles from GW and ex LM and the 6 150/2 vehicles (3 150/2s) make up this total. I guess the last two arrivals for Northern being quoted as 3 car could be because they are to be hybrid coupled before arrival as 3car 150 is a franchise commitment. This leaves the two 150/2 vehicles which have lost their partners since construction (209/212) unaccounted for. If this has indeed changed and I have missed it then I would be grateful if someone could confirm.

The unit is a mismatch but what could need manufacturing, bogies are the same , alternators are new from equip , new fuel tanks fitted , brake controllers are the same , directional switch is same , door gear is same as 455 317 with anti burst brackets on the door bottoms , the engines are Different

They are not at Reading anymore, their mainly used around Bristol, but do venture down to Devon and Cornwall on occasion.

And that's precisely how false information gets circulated. As already said he was talking about the current GWR franchise (ending in Spring 2019) and the Northern franchise agreed to take on every 150/1 and 150/0 owned by Angel (as per the franchise agreement) as well the two 150/2 cars. However, the plan will likely change again so to many it may seem like it was never the plan - like with GWR not taking on 319s and 365s despite it being written in to the GWR franchise agreement.

The Northern Franchise Agreement doesn't confirm that Northern are to take on all Angel 150s as there are more vehicles than specified, it is hard to know this though as Angel don't know how many trains they have!!!...I was going to list off evidence that proves my point but I can not prove it as Angel claim to own 2 150/0 3cars, 50 150/1 2cars, 2 150/1 3 cars and 19 150/2 2 cars (makes 150 vehicles). Clearly this is wrong as they have listed hybrid 150/1s on top of the original count of 50. This information is therefore inaccurate so I went to other publications and websites and no one shows the figures correctly. Platform 5 from 2012 (latest copy I could get hold of at short notice) have 150219 belonging to Porterbrook (146 vehicles) which goes against an online listing that has lost 57209&57212 (if we include them they make it 148 vehicles). I therefore give up, but for sure Angel own more than the additional 46 class 150 vehicles Northern are due to receive. I personally believe the figure to be 148 vehicles but with no evidence I can not quote based on it. If this is the case then 8 seems to be the missing number of vehicles. Northern will have 140 class 150 vehicles according to the Franchise Agreement. There are a mysterious number of additional vehicles not included...hopefully they will transfer too instead of not finding a home, although GW now apparently want to keep some...I tried!!

Angel own (Platform 5 2018 pocket book)
2 150/0 3 car trains
50 150/1 2 car trains
19 150/2 2 car trains
2 toilet less 150/2 single coaches
That is ONLY 146 coaches NOT 148, so on YOUR evidence Northern will receive LESS trains that their franchise agreement states but because GWR and its supporters believe they are right, Northern wont have thew extra trains it needs.
Look on the Northern rail web site it clearly lists how many train Northern will receive and how many will be refurbished, but if you are right (as you claim) this list is wrong.

I'm sorry, but I think you have completely missed what I have said. I have clearly said that I have no evidence as all the information from various sources is unclear and that I am therefore not able to make a judgement. Northern will not receive less trains as they are, as I said, only due to have a total of 140 vehicles (Franchise Document) of type class 150. The fact there are according to your up to date evidence (which I thank you for) 146 class 150 vehicles owned by Angel means that Northern are NOT going to receive all Angel 150s, YOUR evidence confirms there are 6 vehicles which will not be transferring. Out of interest, if you could clarify the owner of 150219 according to your up to date publication it would be useful, I believe this to be Angel Trains owned but the 2012 edition of the same publication you have used showed it as a Porterbrook unit. My belief that this unit was misquoted gave me the theoretical total of 148 vehicles owned by Angel. I think I was totally clear that I gave up while attempting to investigate this point!

150 219 is owned by Porterbrook
YOUR EVIDENCE says 140 vehicles (franchise document) of type class 150
17 2car 150/2 Angel owned currently with Northern 34 coaches
11 2car 150/2 Porterbrook owned currently with Northern 22 coaches
50 2car 150/1 Angel owned ALL will be operated by Northern 100 coaches
I make that 156 vehicles of class 150 with Northern. on YOUR evidence 16 vehicles will not be used by Northern ( LESS TRAINS)

Right let's make this as straight forward as possible. The Northern franchise agreement makes no reference to any existing 150s in the Northern fleet being released - so we can ignore all the 150s Northern had on the franchise start date and only look at the additional 150s.

These are the additional 150s mentioned as joining the Northern fleet:

full

And these are the lease end dates for 150s in the GWR agreement:

full

We can ignore the Porterbrook ones in the GWR list as all the incoming 150s going to Northern are listed as belonging to Angel.

Noting that there are also 3 x LM 150s involved in the cascades and no other Angel Trains in existence (other than the ones which were already with Northern which we are ignoring) the numbers indicate just 4 Angel Trains owned 150 vehicles at GWR were not due to transfer to Northern.

The fact that the 2 x 3 car 150s shown on the Northern list do not show any change in seated capacity indicates that the 2 x 3 car 150s would have been fully PRM compliant prior to transferring.

The Northern Franchise Agreement doesn't confirm that Northern are to take on all Angel 150s as there are more vehicles than specified

I've corrected the above post to say Northern were due to take on all the /0s and /1s owned by Angel as on checking the numbers it suggests 2 x 2 car 150/2s would remain at GWR (presuming Northern take on all 3 x 150s which LM currently have.)

No, again you miss the point!! I am talking about Angel 150s of course, I haven't mentioned the Porterbrook ones. For clarity, the point is about whether Angel are going to be sending all of their 150s to Northern or not as the comments in the thread indicate. Further to this I had to adjust the post after the information stream fell apart as I checked the information against 3 sources to ensure accuracy and all gave different information so that point would have been clearer prior to me having to strip out a lot of information. At least we now know where the misunderstanding comes from.

Ok, let me make my point totally clear. Porterbrook units currently with Northern are due to remain with Northern. This, according to the Franchise Document is 22 vehicles formed as 11 2cars. On to Angel specific units. Currently there are 64 150/1 vehicles, 32 2 cars and 30 150/2 vehicles, 15 2 cars. There are therefore currently 94 Angel Trains 150 vehicles with Northern (and for clarity, 22 Porterbrook vehicles). On to the future, Porterbrook are not sending any more units to Northern. Angel trains are forwarding 46 150 vehicles, to be formed as either 2 or 3 car units, at the discretion of the franchisee up to a total of 24 vehicles can be reformed into 16 3 cars. The point here is that if 46 Angel Trains 150 vehicles are being added to the fleet then some of the Angel 150 vehicles are not being forwarded to Northern, contrary to a comment someone made saying it had been confirmed that all of Angel's 150 vehicles were going to Northern, they claimed according to the Franchise Document. So, for further clarity, the rolling stock provision for 150s at Northern will end up being Porterbrook 150s, 22 vehicles formed as 2car and Angel 94 existing plus 46 additional so 140 vehicles, formed in 2 or 3 car sets. There will be 162 class 150 vehicles with Northern after the cascade (which may change of course, especially with GW trying to retain some!). So, what is happening with the Angel vehicles which are therefore not included in the list? I.e. I was wondering if I had missed an increase in allocation for Northern subsequent to the Franchise Document.

Thank you for confirming that 150219 is a Porterbrook unit and therefore not in consideration for Northern. For information, Platform 5 was correct, online list was wrong.

I have got this off the GWR wikipedia page in the future fleet section and this should sort stuff out.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_Western_Railway_(train_operating_company)#Future_fleet
Thank you for that, I, however, question this data as it does not comply with the Franchise Document as the link you supplied shows more units transferring to Northern than specified (all Angel 150s currently with GW). As I said above my question is therefore whether or not there has been an official increase in the number of units being sent to Northern post the Franchise Document that I had missed.

Lets try again.
The GWR franchise agreement states that the "Angel 12" are franchise assets belonging to the GWR franchise. If the GWR franchise is extended they have to remain at GWR, as it has now been extended to April 1st 2020, none of the 12 vehicles can be cascaded to Northern. This means Northern are short of trains as I keep repeating but nobody understands. The only trains that can be cascaded are the 150/1's. 150001, 150002, 150202, 150216 and the 2 toilet less driving cars "the Angel 12" have to stay at GWR.
Read my post in #2266 the maximum number of Angel trains vehicles is 134 not 140.

Just to be clear DfT plan to extend the GWR franchise but it hasn't been signed off yet. Until it's signed off it's not guaranteed that it will happen - see SWT/SWR for an example of where an extension cannot be agreed.

It's been reported earlier on in the thread that Angel want the 2 x toilet-less driving cars to go to Northern anyway as they don't see the sense in Northern removing 8 toilets from 150/2s prior to using them as centre cars when there's already a toilet-less set. However, that would likely be in exchange for an Angel Trains 150 already n the Northern fleet.

Angel have paid for the engineering work to be done to make 57209 into a 52 car , the noises coming from angel is this may not happen and they send 150 207 to gwr as a swap , either one could happen but the engineering has been started for the conversion
