TPE trains missing out Manchester [15/12]

It seems like a lot of TPE trains missed out Manchester last night, causing a lot of delays to a group of my friends heading to Birchwood - I ended up picking them up by car from Piccadilly and Victoria. Does anyone know the reason?

On a sidenote: where is the best place to pick people up at Victoria? I ended up on a cobbled street near the metrolink station, which didn't seem ideal, but was the best I could find...

I see two Liverpool bound trains which were diverted to avoid Birchwood (but still via Manchester) and two which terminated short of Manchester, one at Stalybridge and the other at York.

What train were they on?

TPE's Twitter account says there was disruption due to emergency services dealing with an incident.

They were on 1F82, and advised to change at Huddersfield, then ended up on a train an hour later and told to get off at Victoria and walk to Piccadilly... fortunately, I was near Manchester, and picked them up... otherwise they would have arrived very very late...

Not been a great week in Manchester it seems. On Thursday evening it took nearly an hour for the 17:46 to the airport off Salford Crescent to reach.. Deansgate.

There was indeed, however that was mid-afternoon so I'm not sure if it would have had a direct effect. More likely to be the effects of the signalling issue described upthread.

Its only a mile and slightly uphill, so what's the problem? Yes, I'm being sarcastic, but those politicians who think Rail should replace bus clearly believe this *would* be acceptable for all sectors of society, with all levels of disability; all climates and all human environments.

The only place I have ever been able to drop off/pick up at Victoria is the little cobbled entrance you mentioned, I have tried waiting near the buffet bar/taxi rank but I was moved on. You would of thought when the station was being refurbished a pick up/drop off point would of been provided- Say near the old fish dock area.

1F81 (1710 ex Leeds) and 1F83 (1910 ex Leeds) both diverted via Chat Moss from Stalybridge.

Platforms 9 to 14 were unusable for a number of hours due to signalling faults.

It was a total mess sadly.

Bizarrely the open data sites such as OpenTrainTimes and Realtimetrains show there being 1F82 from Middlesbrough to Liverpool at 0631.

This is why I prefer to avoid the use of headcodes to describe a particular train!

Sorry, that is correct as well. The timetable Monday to Friday has 2x 1F82 run by TPE, one in the morning and one in the evening.

Some either turned back before Manchester or diverted via Man Victoria

There is now a small carpark to the side of Victoria station, adjacent to the Metrolink tracks, ideal for dropping off and picking up unless you have to wait for ages. Alternatively, the Q-Park Manchester Deansgate car park (alongside the line on the Salford side of the station, next to the new Swinton Insurance building) is a short walk away and very reasonably priced for the city centre.

Certainly P13 was out of action for a lot of the evening so they were passing the through services through P14 both ways, obviously doubling the traffic causing delays.

I'm sure most people read 'missed out Manchester' as getting from Huddersfield to Liverpool without calling at Manchester.

Terminating short of Manchester is a wholly different thing.

Anyway, I'll shut up now.

I wonder if now the Ordsall Chord is open, passengers previously directed (often wrongly) to use the tram will be expected to use the train.
