Hi Folks,

Going to Inverness from Broughty Ferry, but need to break journey at Sterling.

Can’t find a price on National rail app, is this possible on one ticket or do I need two singles ?

Cheers

Broughty Ferry -> Sterling

Break of journey at Sterling for a couple of hours or so.

Sterling -> Inverness
That requires a doubling back between Perth and Stirling, so it's not possible on a single ticket. For it to be a 'break of journey' it has to be a station that's on your route of travel. You would be travelling Broughty Ferry - Perth - Stirling, Stirling - Perth - Inverness.

OK no worries - thanks for the clarification.

It is likely cheaper to buy a single from Broughty Ferry to Inverness and then a Day return (off peak if you are travelling off peak) from Perth to Stirling and break your journey at Perth, use the day return and then continue to Inverness on your original ticket.

Just make sure that your train calls at Perth even if you don't have to change trains there.

There are *very* few trains that don't call at Perth (I'm not sure that there are any, actually).
Very true, I am not aware of any, but as generic advice its worth Wayne remember that your train MUST stop at the point where 2 point to point tickets cross over.

Thanks to all responders.

Didn’t need to go to Sterling in the end so went Broughty Ferry -> Dundee -> Perth -> Inverness

No ticketing issuing facilities at BF but got challenged just after BF but guard couldn’t issue a ticket, same thing happened on the next leg, finally managed to buy ticket at Perth.

I noticed the barriers were open at both Perth and Inverness, which surprised me although I did get challenged for a third time on the Virgin train.

Did you enjoy the comical step up onto the train from the platform at BYF? Last time i boarded there southbound i had quite a heavy bag on my back and i must admit, not being the most agile person in the world, i very nearly had to put a hand down to get on!

Yes luckily someone helped me, it was as high as I’ve seen on a 170 and I also had a heavy bag and use a stick.

The last time I remember a high step was a 508 at Chester but I don’t think it was as high as the one today.
