A Yank on the GWR

By the title, you already know I know little of what I speak.
We stayed at Windsor a couple of weeks ago and decided on GWR instead of the long slog on SWT.
Expected Class 166 throughout and Friday was not disappointed. Saturday, the connection from Slough to Paddington showed an 8 coach formation at Platform 3 so at least I knew it was an HST. Sure enough, on we go but I thought the seating was quite snug. I am not large but me knees were right up against the seat in front.
Returning from Paddington was 387150. I did not even know that class operated on GWR. A new experience for me. I looked down after seated and noticed there was more room between my knees and the seat in front as compared to the HST. At least it appeared so. Now I only had 2 pints in London so I assume this is correct. Found it surprising given the HST services go much farther.
Did I get this right?
Very pleasant journeys nonetheless.

387s are known for their brilliant legroom, given at the expense of padding.

The 166’s & 165’s are being sent west to cover services that pass through Bristol but don’t go to London. They are being replaced by electric trains on services out of Paddington. The HST’s are also going from Paddington to be replaced with the new Class 800 Intercity Express Trains. These are bi-mode meaning they can run on overhead wires or be powered by underfloor diesel engines. By Christmas 2018, the GWR main line from London to Cardiff should be fully electrified. Reading the title I initially assumed we were discussing a S100 'USA' steam locomotive in the Gloucester Warwickshire Railway.

387s are known for their brilliant legroom, given at the expense of padding.

All things said they are presently in my view the most comfortable trains operated by gWr. Though I don't mind the HSTs other than the lighting, and the Grammer IC3000 seating is excellent.
