On Thursday 18th June I am having a trip down to London. I am planning on getting the 08:21 London Midland Service from Coventry and getting an off-peak travel card for £28.30 as this is the first service its valid on. What do I need to ask for at the tickets office to get this ticket, an off-peak travel card to London? When coming back would I be valid doing Kensington Olympia to Watford Junc then a London Midland service back to Coventry or would I have to go to Euston first?

You would need to ask for an Off Peak Day Travelcard from Coventry.

On the return there is no requirement for you to return to Euston. The Travelcard will cover you to get onto the West Coast mainline route from Olympia and then you would start using your return portion of the Off Peak Day Travelcard (not an actual portion of the ticket as it is all in one with Travelcards) when you join the mainline at Willesden Junction. There is no requirement needed for the train to stop (although the Southern's do at Wembley Central) because the return ticket from Coventry, is in effect an excess of the Travelcard making it a through ticket to London.

You would need to ask for an Off Peak Day Travelcard London Midland Only from Coventry.

In my experience Virgin ticket offices tend not to tell you the LM only option if you turn up and ask for a ticket to London (or similar.) Also, although you'll get a seat easily enough at Cov, that 0753 New St - Euston is usually crush loaded by M.Keynes as its only a four car.

Sorry, yes a London Midland only fare would need to be requested.

Isn't Watford Junctions outside the travelcard zones? So would you need to take a London Midland service to get to Watford Junction?

They're not obliged to

It's up to the customer to research and request it
