The interior in the leading and trailing coaches of 377/140-164,377/2 and 377/4-5 is one of the best in the country. 377101-119 are great throughout. I think the very early /1s have the softest seats of all

377120-139 have the worst interior although unlike 375/9 there are small areas of better seating

377/4-5 have a partition in the leading and trailing coaches as well as having the finalised first class featuring a sliding door plug points and two seats longitudinal

377/3s and 377101 - 119 have a spring under the seat cushions. Why this wasnt in the later 377s nobody knows lol. If i was because of cost then that is very mean.

FWIW my favourite of the layouts is the one you tend to see on Brighton services, which is all 2+2 with a roughly half and half mix of airline and table seating.

Yes, I've been on one.

377120 to 164 have 3x2 seating in the middle portion of the coach between the two sets of doors but 2x2 seating between the doors and the coach ends, if i remember rightly.

377101 - 119 2x2* ordered by Connex with Connex interior (now Southernised)
377120 - 140 3x2 seating between door vestibules, 2x2* between door vestibules and coach ends. Ordered by Connex with Connex Interior (now Southernised)
377141 - 164 As above but ordered by SouthCentral/Southern with Southern interior
377201 - 217 As 377141 - 164
377301 - 328 As 377101 - 119
377401 - 475 2x2 seating on DMOC, 3x2 seating MSO and PTSOL, ordered by Southcentral with Southern interior.

*seat cushions are sprung

Please correct me if im wrong on the seating

A seat cushion with a spring in it to make it more comfortable...like sofas have

..unlike most train seats nowadays which are just memory foam

There is something ironic about it being the Connex interiors which are regarded as being the best and most comfortable, given how derided that operator was at the time. The specification of the Electrostar interiors was one thing they did get very right, IMO.

Yeh agree, they were still a drop in comfort from a 4CIG at the time, but now they are accepted. Why SouthCentral changed the seats so slightly must have been to do with cost...can see no other reason. Tight bast**ds lol

What parts of the seat is sprung: the bottom, the back or both?

Anyway, at least the 375s (inc all /3s built) were built to the nice Connex spec and only a small handful of 8/s & /9s have the original interior (exc seat moquette)

im only certain that the base is (cos ive seen it) although the seat back does seem "softer" that later 377s 2x2 seats too

Completely agree. The original variety of 3 colours of soft moquette (burgundy/navy/grey) plus the reading lights and good table/window alignment put them right at the top of unit interiors IMO.

I got on a refurbished 375 the other day and was very surprised at the seats. They looked the same but the seat back felt different and much more comfortable. I tried other seats on board to see if it was just my seat but no, all seats were like that.

I have noticed this on the /6s and /7s but I don't think that the /8s don't have it. Don't know or remember if the /3s or original SN/1s have it
