Hi, I'm going to take this service at the end of the month, a very basic question: do the trains used on this service have facility to plug in a laptop (as in AC power)?
As a guard on these services I can confirm it to be available only in first class, for those 9 seats. May I suggest taking your trip on a Sat when you can get an upgrade for £10 one way, or if available, getting an Advance First.I'm sure it's available in standard class as wellused to anyway... I think!

That's a socket for service staff which doesn't work when running normally. Why else would I say they're only in first class?what about the one by the door, i did see one on my way home when i needed one, only saw it as we pulled into new street

The weekend upgrade is available then, you can either buy it at a booking office or on train. Best bet just sit down, get comfy and when guard does ticket check ask for a 1st class upgrade between the relevant stationsThanks for the info Mumrar - I'm going to be going on a Sunday, is first class available then too?
How do I get the upgrade, via the Travel Centre or actually on the train?

Well that depends. There are 3 XC depots that work 170s, and 2 which work to Cardiff. If you give me more clues I may be able to confirm knowing youah fair enough... do I know you then?
Well I'm the youngest 170 guard at New St because XC took on the most long serving Senior Conductors from Central Trains (leaving the rest to buzz buzz with London Midland). I'm also a right ugly sod, but that doesn't narrow it down. I'm 6ft, mid length dark hair, and THE funniest person to have walked the earth. If you were at work today I was on the 19.14 to Cardiff and 20.15 to New StreetI'm the youngest dispatcher at Newport if that helps! haha

Don't worry, I'd forgotten them in the Cider drinking region to be honest. Yes, four it is. I consider myself chastised on behalf of the new Bristol 170 bunchThere's 4 that work 170's. Don't forget about us in the east!

That is certainly the case with some of the sleeper stock sockets, but you'll get no power, good or bad out of the sockets on a 170 that are anywhere other first classForgive me if this is little imprecise as I'm not an expert on these things but I understand that the electricity supply to those sockets is not attentuated so they are not suitable for public use. Only electrical items that can withstand power surges should be used.
