Well, I'm a Deltic lover through and through, but there's no comparison. The big boy was mechanically an absolute beast and monstrously powerful, more so than any Deltic certainly was. But they were built for totally different reasons and to different specifications. A fairer comparison may be the Big Boy and a 60 or 59 to be honest.

What an odd comparison!

However, it's a Deltic, for me - and this is a steam lover speaking.

I always find American steam locos far less elegant than British ones - and indeed far less elegant - and less stylish - than a Deltic, say. So a Deltic.

Had this been 'Deltic' v. 'A3' or 'A4', the result would have differed!

I'm not to keen on American Steam loco's because they are far less stylish than ours!, although Big Boy is a BEAST!!!!! has to Be a Deltic!
