On Mondays at 9pm - you are probably watching Extreme Railway Journeys (Tarrant) on CH5. However, at the same time on Quest (Freeview 37; Freesat 167; Sky 144 & Virgin 172) is a series entitled ‘Railroad Australia’. On Monday 20 November 2017, it will feature ‘The Ghan’.

Yes, and in my view it's much more interesting. And the unseen presenter is a lot less annoying. Both channels have +1 on Freeview and the programmes are repeated several times over the following week so should be plenty of chance to catch both.

It is repeated at 5.30pm on Sundays. This is how not to do a programme about railways! Constant music along with a hyped up commentary trying to make out there is a constant crises. If this is an example of Aussie Tv, then I am glad that I don’t live down under!

It's not specifically Australian, it's probably more accurate to describe it as American as it is a Discovery channel programme. No matter which country they operate in Discovery specialise in ruining potentially decent factual programming with overly dramatic music, constant recaps/spoilers for next part, endless repetition of often inaccurate footage and worst of all the fake jeopardy storylines they insert into everything. That Alaskan rail prog was exactly the same as are countless other shows made for them.

While the footage may be of interest the production and storylines are just garbage made for people with IQ's as low as their attention span.

If you want a great example of a really interesting premise completely ruined by these hacks try to find the original few episodes of a prog called "Airplane Repo". Then watch the retarded faked nonsense they made after they ditched the genuine repo agents and apparently hired a bunch of delusional nutjobs supposedly re-creating actual events that, yeah sure, really occurred.

At least the this one has some interesting and varied sequences and it's possible to learn something from it if you ignore all the bluster. Unlike the Alaskan one. which was pretty much exactly the same storyline each time.

13 editions of Railroad Australia are being broadcast back-to-back from 0620 tomorrow (Christmas Eve) on Quest (Freeview, Freesat, Sky, Virgin). Just to mention also that "Trains that changed the world" is being broadcast in similar fashion from 2000 on Thursday 27 December on Yesterday channel (same platforms as Quest).
