Why do you post in the middle of the night?

Trouble is that I remember what I should have been doing on the computer before I was distracted by looking at discussions just as I am about to go to bed. Then I wonder what else has been said ........

Until this week I was working odd shift patterns. If on a late I would stay up very late and lie in very late. I'd end up online in the middle of the night sometimes. Mightily relieved to be rid of shifts. I know they work for some people but not me.

Old King Cole, in the rude version of the song, "called for his pipe in the middle of the night"; but he was a monarch, and could do whatever he wanted. If he'd lived in Internet times, no doubt he -- plus at need, his "enablers" -- would have posted in the middle of the night, if that had been his fancy.

I frequently browse the forum at night, generally because of shifts, or simply because I'm rubbish at getting myself to bed at a sensible time.

Because I'm rubbish at forcing myself to sleep so end up spending hours reading old topics and before I know it it's gone 2am and my body clock is completely ruined for a few days. There was a prolonged period over the summer where I was nocturnal because I stayed on my laptop all night.

I finish work at 12am on weekday nights, and 2am on weekends, so sometimes read the forums, and when off work if not doing trip, then I just sleep whenever it takes over, can be up silly o clock watching Netflix etc.

Ah, the irony of reading this thread at 1528 on a Thursday afternoon...

For me, odd posting times are mainly about working hours. And then when I'm on rest days / leave etc., I usually switch back to a "late turn" sleeping pattern, as I'm more of an evening person. Usually I sleep from 1am to 8.30am if left to my own devices.

Because I think my body clock is wrong... Left to my own devices (ie, with no work or anywhere to go the next morning) I'll go to bed at about 1 am and get up about 9 or 10. Right now it's Friday night/Saturday morning, I've no requirement to get up early, so here I am, having come back from the pub, relaxing, browsing this forum and will go to bed soon

Oh good grief what are we doing up this time of night?
I blame that 14th glass of wine.
Anyone else up that shouldn’t be? I’m here to give you a good telling off...

as is 12 pm too. The trouble is that some people use that to mean noon. Best not used at all.

Agree! One afternoon I tried to force my way into a library, having looked at the times and thinking it was (bizarrely) open until midnight. When the doors absolutely refused to open it eventually dawned on me that it had closed at noon.

RailUK are slowly building a fleet of robots to take over the DfT and RDG, using the posts on these forums to determine what we want and how things should be done. 56 have been built so far, the number online will drop occasionally due to testing etc.

They'll be the likes of Google and Bing, who trawl the website to index it so that it can be searched by their engines

That’s what you want me to believe. I’m surprised Lrd hasn’t been silenced yet.

I end up getting in a bunch of conversations &just forget the time. I try to put my phone down before 1am though for fear of falling asleep in my GCSE revision sessions!
You in Year 11 then? It's good to know that there's more than just a few of us faced with GCSEs this year

For me nowadays I rarely use this forum heading into the wee hours. Most of my posts and browses come at the weekend, and there'll often be telly on in the evenings so I won't be posting then.

I usually post here at night if I can't sleep or I've just finished a late shift.

It is the Strangers from the film Dark City. When everyone is asleep they rebuild the world and you wake up as someone else.

I've seen the Strangers. They wear Network Rail uniforms. Sometimes they fail to rebuild the world before the clock starts again and it causes all sorts of problems.

2 main reasons for me

The first and current reason is 3 years old and the other is 5 years old and neither of them like sleep and survive on about 6 hours..... I need 8!

The other reason is being on call and waiting for servers etc to reboot and needing something to keep me awake if the neither of first 2 reasons aren't doing their job!!

;)

This was my reason tonight. I was enjoying the discussion and had just opened a bottle but it seems the person I wad trying to educate has gone to bed. So here I am
