Hey there!

I applied for the position of Gateline Assistant. For the job, I did an online assessment, telephone interview, and an interview at the station. I was contacted by phone 6 days later with a conditional offer.

I've had to fill my information out online for screening, and tomorrow, have to attend a medical. What sorts of things do they do in the medical? It says to come smartly dressed and will last around 45 minutes.

On the phone they said it was an alcohol/drugs test, which I'm fine with as I only drink on a night out, and I've not ever taken drugs. But what do they do for it to last 45 minutes?

Thank you!

Blood pressure, hearing, eye sight, medical history (e.g. family history of diabetes or whatever). Nothing innocuous.

That’s cool... why blood pressure?

Years ago in college I used to get panic attacks so my blood pressure was a bit high. I was always nervous when having it done so it used to read as high.

Will this affect my chances of the job?

If you're otherwise fit and healthy and not full of drugs/alcohol then for the type of job you're after it's all merely a formality. There's now an element of doubt in my mind over whether they do blood pressure or not (I can 'clearly remember' it happening, but I may be thinking of something else). What I do know with certainty happened is 1) they put my medical on the one, single, only day I said I couldn't do and 2) I had a special hearing test (done a different way to usual) because mine isn't so good. Nothing affected my job chances. Relax!
