Poll: How far are you from home?

Random question which might give interesting answers, plus it's my first poll with the new forum.

Where do you consider to be home, and where do you live currently?

Home for me is Barbados, I currently live in Dundee - so about 4,000 miles give or take.

Being on the younger side of the forum, I consider home to be pretty much where I am at this very moment - zero distance.

In what context please? Work from home? Under a mile - so that's what I've voted.

Or where you are in relation to home right now? I'm sitting in my study at home right now but there is no option for "at home" although that is most certainly within the "under a mile" category anyway.

It came to mind when I realised that Christmas is just around the corner: So in terms of 'Going home for the holidays' type of home, if that makes sense. Or the place you feel that you 'belong'.

I'm from Southampton and that's where most of my family are still but I live in Leighton Buzzard. Just over 100 miles away

Live in Sheffield. 'Home' is near Leeds. Home defined as where I grew up, where most friends and family are and I have spent the most time living. I have been quite nomadic recently though with 6 years in different parts of the North West before moving back home and then buying my house in Sheffield for work reasons.

I can see the 'Welcome to Exeter' sign from my window and although I've lived in other places (and maybe we will again at some point) Devon will always be home to me.
Mrs C is from Northern Ireland but has lived here for twenty years and also considers Devon home.

Same but swap Crawley for Milton Keynes. I live in MK but i doubt it will ever be home even if I have little direct connection to the NE now.

Right now, I'm at home... but temporarily, as home isn't "home" until the end of the month due to feline responsibilities! This time last week, I was around a thousand miles from home as I was approaching Nürnberg Hauptbahnhof on a DB class 612 DMU.

Norwich born and bred for me - I currently live just under a mile from the old maternity home where I was born. Its now a TLC church!!

Home can be a fluid concept. Born in south West of Ireland and where spent formative years so in one sense that is home. But then I also have strong family ties to other parts of Ireland, went to school in Manchester, university in Sheffield, for my sins spent a number of years in Derby and Now living and fairly settled in Manchester.

If I go with the song by Marvin Gaye, where ever I lay my hat is my home, then since I left it in Galway last week my home is currently 300 miles away.

I consider "home" my parents' house near Bristol. I'm about 130 miles away in London most of the time.

Stevenage-born, but definitely Clydebank-raised (a brief stay in Old Drumchapel notwithstanding), a difference of around 370 miles. I've always considered the latter town my true home, having spent all my formative, childhood & teenage years and, to date, all of my adult life here. Can't imagine being raised anywhere else. So yeah, am not all that far from home at the moment....

I grew up in Seaham, just a stone's throw from the Durham Coast line. I now live just over the hill in Houghton-le-Spring, just a stone's throw from the Leamside line

I also lived in York for a few years when I was a student, just a stone's throw from the Scarborough line.

Never intended to live close to railways - it just happened.

I am in a similar position, my parents' generation are all dead and the children have moved away. Home has become where I live now.

I envy you there, to a degree. I've lived in eleven or twelve different houses in four different countries.
