Shaw & Crompton moved south of Beal Lane, to eliminate the level crossing when it became Metrolink

In addition, Blundellsand & Crosby moved from Mersey Road, north to its current location

North of the border, Burntisland moved for the opening if the Bridge and did North Berwick not move as part of the rebuild?

Bathgate moved about half a mile east when they reopened the Airdrie-Bathgate line.

I think that the current Cathays station in Cardiff is on a different site - and maybe even a different line - to the original.

The old Ebbw Vale station was nearer to the town centre than the new one is. The site was built on after the station closed, with the result that Station Road is now nowhere near to the actual station!

Although the station hasn't physically moved, the focus of Newport station has moved from one end of the it to the other as a result of the entrance being moved.

That was a separate 'milk dock' platform, from the Middleton Press book for the area.

That's true. However, I think that when Wimbledon was rebuilt in the 1930s, the platforms were put in a slightly different position; thus they could be considered as having been moved sideways. I also think that the same thing happened at Vauxhall when the main line into Waterloo was reconfigured from up slow, up fast, down fast, down slow to up fast, down fast, up slow, down slow once the flyover at Wimbledon was built.

I have a feeling that Tooting station was moved from its original place at the junction of the Wimbledon and Merton lines to where it is today, on Mitcham Road, but perhaps someone can confirm that one way or the other.

Uxbridge. Original Metropolitan station replaced by new station on the High Street in 1938.

Stevenage moved from original site to the present site in the centre of the New Town in 1973.

There have been various moves of the District Line's Hounslow stations, but in particular Hounslow West moved very slightly northwards and partly underground when the Piccadilly Line was extended to Heathrow.
Where was the original Stevenage station in relation to the new one ?

I can remember seeing pics of Harold Wood station platforms being staggered back in the 1920s?
The east bound platform was approximately 100 yards further down the track and I presume they were
levelled once the route was upgraded to four lines.
Tried Googling for said snap(s) but with no success.

Altrincham, in the last century there used to be two stations Altrincham and Bowdon, they were combined into Altrincham & Bowdon with a new station half way between the closed stations. The Bowdon suffice was later dropped.

I'm pretty sure Buxton qualifies, but I don't know the precise details.

Buxton was odd in that it was two stations that were side, the lines have moved since then but I think the current station has always been the station for the current layout.

I think a fundamental requirement of a station should be that it is stationary: I don't want to leave one of an evening and find, when I return the following morning, it has moved. It'd be inexcusable, and might cause me to amend my drinking habits.

The centre of gravity of Bicester Village is further to the west than the previous Bicester Town.

Not sure it counts but Oxford Rewley Road was completely removed and rebuilt 20 miles away at Quainton Road, Buckinghamshire Railway Centre.

In that case: Whitwell

Buxton had two broadly identical stations, LNWR and MR side by side. The MR one was redundant when the MR route to Matlock closed. IIRC.

When I asked this question I expected about half a dozen. I know Bishop Aukland and Whatstandwell from different times of my life, so I need to find some old maps.

Then how about Weston Milton's second platform, which moved to Lympstone Commando? ;)

To be honest when this thread was first started I was expecting it would be about the moveable "bridge" at Brockenhurst!

Temple Meads moved stealthily. The new curved part got added to the original straight shed. They existed together for quite a while before the straight shed was taken out of use, leaving just the curved part.

The old straight shed was going to be put back into use as part of the electrification programme, but like the electrification has been put on hold (probably permanently).

Just remembered another, Partick moved slightly east. The old platforms were still in situ last time I was there, clearly visible from the current platforms.

And another, the station at Smethwick moved, becoming Smethwick Galton Bridge.

At what point does a "move" become a closure and a new station requiring the full legal closure process for the original location?
