Newcastle to Carlisle Diversions First Class

Those HST rides along the Tyne Valley on autumn Saturdays are great but I'd love to take my dad along 1st class hopefully when there's something with steam on passing through Carlisle. Its been discussed before that there isn't a fare so the only way of doing it would be £15 per journey Weekend First upgrade which is a bit pricey on top of the £16.20 off-peak return fare.

However I read that Virgin trains customers can bid to upgrade with Seatfrog, anyone know whether this could create a Newcastle to Carlisle ist class supplement. I think the original ticket would have to be with Virign as well, maybe you can buy the £16.20 off-peak return through them or do they have a pair of advances cheaper?

Seatfrog upgrades are only available Monday to Friday, so if you want to travelin First you will need to buy Advances or get a Standard Class ticket and upgrade using Weekend First.

Thinking about it, I doubt it, actually - I don't think the demand would warrant a temporary fare, but you never know.
