Hello pal, glad to hear it and sounds like you made exactly the right choice. If your happy then what else really matters. I'm happy in my current job but certainly like to keep my options open and if something comes along and I want to go for it then I will

Brilliant mate! Always good to keep your options open

Glad it's worked out well for you.
In the Railfreight side of things, when people mange to get positions at a passenger TOC, the reaction is always positive usually ' you've done the right thing, all the best'.

That's great to see buddy! Some of the other guys on my course were ex freight men.... took to it like ducks to water! Learning so much off then as well!

....don't be a lot of them and look down at the rest...
There is absolutely no evidence of him "looking down at the rest"; I simply see someone who is happy in their job (which I personally think is very important) and knows people are asking what it is like to work in that job and therefore wants to tell people about it, which I think is great. Good for him!

I fully agree.

Made all the nicer by the fact that someone whose content in their job and doesn't spend their life moaning is a rare commodity on the railway!

Think you need to reread it, I didn't say he was, I said don't be that person that does (over time)
I'm glad he's happy but I don't get why you'd come on a forum just to tell people how happy you are coincidentally at a company many see as the pinnacle of train driving.
If the roster suits then good for you, I'm far happier where I am now but I wouldn't come on here to say it.
Yes the work is probably better but just seems a bit of a pointless thread.
There's lots to look at like any company, suits some, doesn't suit others. Just don't see how it's different to any other company

Why should he not? He is happy where he is and he wants to tell other people about his experience. This is useful information for others. If you disagree with his assertions then challenge him on the facts to allow others to make an informed choice, which I note you subsequently did, which is absolutely fine.

Yes, I have met such people before so I know they are not mythical creatures. These people don't just exist at intercity TOCs either. We have a few notorious ones at ours. Nothing special about Virgin.

If people see it as the pinnacle that's up to them but there's many like yourself who are all about the negativity surrounding such companies..... my thread is simply about it being probably being best to not believe all you hear and give things a go for yourself. If you couldn't see that this thread is aimed more at the people who are in 2 minds or like yourself the ill informed or narrow minded that's simply your issue.

Me being happy where I am is only part of the post thus proving you've chosen to read the bits you wanted to rather than the whole thing..... this whole site is about posts and information that maybe useless/pointless to some but interesting to others.... if that's unacceptable to you maybe Internet forums aren't for you. Also part of the reason I've received 3 private messages since the start of this thread asking for more information.... if this post inspires, educates or just plain interests anyone then it was worth it in my eyes.

Ironic really that the only person to come on here and bleat about the rosters is you! Lol!.... you've picked 3/4 parts of virgin you dislike (rosters being one of them) and decided to kick the backside out of them!

You probably won't see the difference because you're happy where you are and have no desire to move.... and probably wouldn't be interested in the differences no matter how good or bad they were from what I've seen on here....maybe in that case the only thing pointless about this thread is why you chose to comment in the first place? Just a thought.

Narrow minded hahaha.
All I commented on originally was the rosters and it was yourself that decided to make something more of it
The rosters are enough for me not to be interested in the company.
I wasn't having a dig, just seems some people are more interested in working for virgin then what they'll actually be doing at virgin.
In what way is it better?
If you want to work most weekends and 5 days a week just to strut round in a virgin uniform then you carry on.
Il keep my Sundays off every week, long weekend every 3rd.
No problem
I've not been rude, I made a comment about the roster and now you seem to think it's justified making assumptions about me.
You crack on.
Enjoy the job

Let's call it a day.

red2005, congratulations and enjoy your new job. Thank you for sharing your experience, which Class2ldn has countered in Post 27, so I am sure there is fair representation from both sides to provide a balanced account for things.
