Have the Class 700 seats changed or have I become more used to them? I rode on one on the 15th September from West Hampstead to Mill Hill Broadway, and felt fine. Whereas my first ride from City Thameslink to St Pancras was really uncomfortable.

I've not noticed any changes, it's possible that after a year in service some units' seats have softened, but I can't say I've noticed that either. Personally I find that, especially for short journeys like those, if you board the train without consciously thinking about the seat comfort, you really don't notice and soon forget about it.

It appears the 1757 London Bridge to Brighton has changed from 377 to 700. Doesn't sound significant, but until last week it was run by Southern and now it is run by Thameslink.

Was there any notification of this change? It is important for people with Thameslink only or Southern only tickets.

Is this the first scheduled 700 service not to stop at Gatwick?

All TL services are now 700 operated.

There was a poster displayed at Brighton last week advising the change. I didn't make a note of the details, but I think the services changing operator (SN to TL) were as follows:

1B08: 07.32 BTN - LBG
1B13: 09.08 LBG - BTN
1B44: 16.42 BTN - LBG (Retimed from 16.32)
1B47: 17.57 LBG - BTN

It appears only 1B13 stops at Gatwick.

Plenty more SN to TL transfers to come over the coming months.

Any ideas what will happen with the 5:52 from littlehampton as this joins a service from Brighton at Haywards Heath currently

Will the Brighton leg be cancelled or run to London Bridge separately

Plenty of notification at London Bridge, I saw a number of signs over the last couple of weeks. I should imagine any RPIs on the service would show understanding for anyone with a Southern only ticket.

Route learning must be imminent then..I think only Brighton learning the west coastway

Are they all shacks to.hove ? East worthing fishersgate and aldrington usually get missed out...

Just checked currently all stops to worthing then lancing Shoreham Portslade and Hove which I presume will stay the same

Interesting Southwick is missed
Will the 700 go back empties to bridges ?

Odd that up until early December that service starts from Littlehampton via Arun Valley and now its starting from Horsham.

Littlehampton to Horsham section is no longer run nor is there a replacement train.

There was a notice up at St Pancreas about this last week. I didn't stop to read it, just noticed the headline saying London Bridge - Brighton services would be operated by class 700 trains or words to that effect.

This service has healthy first class patronage, so I imagine it's quite cosy in the leading compartment.

I presume an OBS is no longer assigned to the train, following the change of operator?

They aren't enforceable, as far as I'm aware.

Believe me, some TL Revenue staff will try.

That sounds very curious indeed. I believe the "all stations" service from Littlehampton was introduced in its current guise quite recently - can anyone confirm? I wonder if it is a franchise requirement.

Alternatively, perhaps this is a bit of an oversight, and it could (or will) run as a 700 (the argument they can't actually stop at stations seems spurious to me, as they have done test runs down the Arun Valley, and they'd need to be able to stop in platforms in emergencies). That would also act as route retention for diverting via Arundel vice Hove.

Should they really, really not be able to stop at stations, I guess the stock could come ECS from Littlehampton to Horsham anyway.

Apparently they are to receive training for 700s but we'll see...

It's all gone a touch quiet over the last week or two. The least sinister explanation which I have heard is that a few rostering issues have delayed training, which is obviously by no means unheard of with such matters.

I have, however, not heard anything to contradict the concept that these services need either full-time station staffing or onboard crew for at least those parts of their timetables where they replace trains which were once fully staffed 377s.

Whether this is just when the 700s leave the main BML route, or alternatively south of the London terminal equivalent to London Bridge / Victoria (which would presumably be Blackfriars or City TL), also remains to be seen.

Previously, if I remember correctly, TL 319s used to briefly operate on some routes with conductors when running south of Farringdon, before all routes went DOO(P), or the routes changed. When they ran to Guildford, for example, they definitely had conductors for at least a portion of the journey. Those conductors effectively then started to work the Southern 455s and 377s on part of the same route, which provide peak-time services from the Guildford-Effingham Jn-Bookham corridor up to London Bridge and Victoria, and vice versa.

The irony is that some of the staff who once worked the 319s will probably end up training OBSs to work 700s, if the plans go ahead.

700 failure earlier causing problems today. I'm on a Sutton that's going fast from Blackfriars, driver is making plenty of announcements to this effect but apparently has been unable to change the PIS to match. Surely this can be overridden somehow?

I think the Littlehampton stoppers have been in the timetable for many years, although I couldn't swear that the station calls North of Horsham haven't changed.

The 06.33 from Horsham has always seemed a pretty useless service. From Littlehampton there's a faster train to London Bridge via Hove leaving 5 minutes before it and from Horsham and the Arun Valley the 06.50 ex-Horsham is faster and overtakes the 06.33 before East Croydon. I assume that it is largely aimed at commuters from the local stations via Redhill.

It appears that the balancing evening down working no longer runs via Horsham (I've used that a few times in the past and it was very lightly loaded South of Gatwick).

It starts from platform 1 by stock that appears by magic, as a manager said the other day "the timetable is still being tweaked".
