Great effort!

But ... it looks like that if everything had gone absolutely perfectly, the train might just have made Norwich in 90, non stop.

So how are GA going to do this twice a day, reliably, as per their franchise commitment?

By putting a great big hole in the timetable just ahead of these fast trains, expecting NR to come to the party over infrastructure reliability, and ensuring these new trains behave themselves. It's not much to ask :)

It's not that difficult if given the right path. I could do it in 90 tommorow morning easily with a stop at Ipswich if allowed.

Sounds to me that telling all the Norwich punters who want faster journey times to move closer to the station would be a more reliable solution.
But perhaps the politicians and estate agents don't want to do that.

Norwich travellers and those to and from ALL the stopping points on the route would stand to benefit much more from a simple 20 minute interval service.

I was front window for 1G04 the whole way looking at Open Train Times, all the time,
A Container train was moving in front of us at Stratford
1N38 was caught up at Witham
The Cambridge Ipswich went ahead of us at Haughley Junction
0P03 went ahead of us at Diss behind the Norwich train
Without the Cambridge Ipswich we would have had to do Ipswich to Norwich in 23 minutes to get Norwich in 90. Would have had to have a constant speed of 120MPH in order to do it!

The Cambridge to Ipswich did not affect 1G04, 2W25 (Cambridge to Ipswich ) did however,(Signaller or SSM would have copped for the delay tho) and as you say there was an 0P03 ahead, whilst that did not affect 1G04 too much, there were a couple of single yellows, 1G04 then caught 1L11 going over the bridge ( 1252 ex Liverpool Lime St), now had Witham put 1N38 via P4 and given 1G04 a run, would that have been enough for an unofficial quicker run ??
(and a naff time to do a test trip from C/P !)

I have heard they will be attempted in the 'Shoulder peaks' not quite sure what that means though :) and '99' all day

Remember it was done in 87 with the 360's the other week

I think the majority of punters would be fine with just a slight reduction in times rather than the full 25 mins taken off to bring it to 90. Especially if the local rag told the truth and that the times are caused by how congested and busy the lines are.

A certain MP has long used Norwich in 90 as her soundbite though, and loves to distort the truth around the matter to her advantage.

On a Sunday, no PAX no turnround or pathing issues (apart from the excluded 20 mins dwells at Ipswich) no real comparison.
