Watching The Eurostar

Hi I am new to this forum so will start by saying hello to everyone. I have a young kid who is train crazy and wants to go and watch the Eurostar. So my question is where are the best places to go to see it at speed ?? Are there any stations on it’s route which you can catch a “Normal” train too and sit there for a while watching them ??

The best places are usually lineside spots ive heard that the Medway Bridge is a good spot, anywhere in Kent is good where it hits 186mph sorry i can`t be more exact but if you youtube some videos im sure you`ll find a good place

as for getting other trains ive no idea really as most places where the Eurostar hits top speed are away from UK regional lines.

When domestic services start at Ebbsfleet, that will be an ideal spot. Not sure where else at the moment...

Ashford Int. is the best to go to in a normal train. As you get Eurostars
going past and there's food and toilets there. If you get there about 9.45
Plat 5 and 6 should be full of 395's ( Chavelins)

I'm not sure about that - as I'm pretty sure that non-stop Eurostars use a flyover to the north of the station. Either way, stopping or not, they will be at a reduced speed.

You might find Westenhanger station quite good. HS1 runs right alongside the station although I don't know what linespeed.

As a side point, 395s are not Javelins, that is the name of the service that they will operate to Stratford during the Olympics.

Indeed. A very common misconception.

Rainham station in Essex on the c2c is good a footbridge right next to the station goes straight over the Eurostar Line (HS1). The trains go through there very fast too, so good for your young son. Viewing is best from the slope of the bridge on the other side of the station although to see better you might need to put your son on your shoulder's or something.Chris (CCF23)

They do, but it is well within sight of the platforms. I don't know about exact speeds, but they did seem to be going pretty fast when I was there a few months ago.

December I think, but they are running a ghost sevice at the moment

The viaduct is only 30 feet from Plat 6, max speed over the viaduct is 150mph ish
