A deal has been agreed. There will be no extension of DOO beyond the current boundaries. (Oxford, Didcot and Bedwyn) IEP may operate DOO on Oxford and Bedwyn services, but a guard will be provided for the full length of the journey on other routes. That means services on the Cotswold Line which currently operate DOO between London and Oxford when formed of a Turbo will have a guard throughout. I believe the system employed will be driver door release and guard close. GWR have also dropped their plans for DOO on Turbos which are being moved West.

Thanks for that.

About the gatelines, they would make a fortune installing them at Hamworthy (Dorset),the amount of fare evading which occurs here is crazy...

Will I still receive the six free passes when I purchase my annual season ticket?

We will be continuing to accept the free weekend travel tickets you were offered by the previous franchisee, and these will be valid for use as long as you maintain a Gold Card season ticket for a SWR route and the original terms and conditions of issue will apply. We will not be offering these to customers that purchase or renew their ticket after the 19 August.

To me, the most natural meaning implies that any media reports saying you have to use the passes by the time your existing gold card expires are incorrect.

SWR have said previously that their plans do not rely on DOO. So a few strikes early on, with the threat of long term, disruptive action and you would think that the RMT will achieve a similarly good deal.
SWR have already committed to a second staff member on all trains. so striking over door operations etc probably wouldn't enjoy widespread public support anyway, but as you say judging by the victory RMT achieved at GWR when measured against their original proposals, I can't see the union enduring too many sleepless nights. .:D

Fairly trivial points, but here we go:-

1) As a passenger, I was given free jelly beans at Waterloo this morning. Ingredients include Spirulina (a form of algae 3.5 billion years old) and shellac, from which 78 rpm records were made, but there's no mention of gelatin.
2) Free water on the 14.54 Waterloo to Weymouth - the guard invited everyone to take some if they wished.
3) Free ice creams at Basingstoke. I received mine on the stairway, but there were four members of staff distributing them to passers-by just outside the station building.
4) The PIS on board the class 444 that formed the 0939 from Basingstoke welcomed us aboard "this SWR service", but after Clapham Junction it became a South West Trains service to Waterloo only. It also encouraged visits to the South West Trains website.
5) Guards continue to refer to South West Trains, though I'm not surprised as they must have been saying that for years and for thousands of times. I remember when National Express took over East Coast, staff found it hard not to refer to GNER in on-board announcements.

Again trivial, but of course the Stagecoach replacement buses serving Chessington still proudly exclaim they're 'South West Trains' with the Stagecoach colours and livery. A brand encore, if you will.

Pictured here at Chessington North.

To be fair, if a journalist has the detail wrong, it may not be entirely their fault. By chance the SWR website was slow to load, so I loaded the Google Cache version from this morning, which has different text.

Last I checked the RMT is opposed to any further DOO/DCO and wants it rolled back if possible.

The guard of my train yesterday evening referred to it as a "South Western" service. He also said to change at Feltham for the "express coach link to Heathrow Airport". The express bus (T123 I think it was) disappeared nearly 20 years ago!

NRE was (is?) Down which would explain that. Some good lateral thinking there if you ask me!

Although this makes sense, techincally it is breaching the terms of service on realtimetrains because they are a commercial train company.

They correct the hashtag from SWT to SWR and it still goes to real time trains advance just with a bitly redirect :|

(Note: Any reason why the link sensors?!)

Offtopic, but AIUI the forum's underlying software (vbulletin) doesn't allow "URL shorteners", as an anti fraud measure.

My Gold Card runs out in a month, I have 4 free tickets left! does this mean I don't need to rush to use them if I buy another Gold Card (I wouldn't get the benefit of the pure Gold Card without the free tickets but if I don't have to rush to use them it would still be worth me renewing for one more year before deciding what to do after that)

As long as the gold card is on a SWR route you'll still be allowed to use your SWT free tickets.

On their customer forum they stated that the free tickets need to be used before the expiry date of your current season. Mine expires in December so clearly I need to use or lose my five tickets by then.

Another confusion is that Delay Repay is stated as only applying for tickets bought from 4th September onwards. This would therefore mean I will not be eligible for Delay Repay until I renew my season.

So, clear as mud then!

So one would assume that you need to use all tickets up by the renewal date ...

Hi, the same terms and conditions apply for the free passes so yes you will need to use them before your season ticket expires

https://forum.southwesternrailway.com/updates-and-news/f/announcements/16/free-weekend-tickets

That quotation is from the older FAQ text, while the new text seems less compatible with the SWR reply above.

It is not clear how the SWR reasoning here is justified by the terms of the original offer, which does not require using the passes up each year.

They are adding stickers to the carpark signs at Andover this morning. Still got SWT logo on the RingGo signs, but the small print signs now reference First/MTR

As I can't find the original full terms & conditions of the cards, I don't know how correct that may be. However, previously existing ones could be stacked up and used the next year. As was posted on the SWR Forum & the SWR FAQ page, https://www.southwesternrailway.com/contact-and-help/faqs

The terms of the free tickets state that they could be withdrawn at any time. It will be fair to say this covers them.

I would expect that you only will get issue using them after 19 August 2018.

Allegedly the new EMUs for SWR will be designated Class 701 (at least according to an article on Wikipedia...).

Is there any confirmation this is correct?
