When the Aventras get built and start to enter service with SWR, what's the most likely order that the 455, 456, 458 and 707s get replaced in?

Surely its a refund at renewal time. I would expect that its a payment made by Stagecoach SWT as its a liability of the current franchise to First MTR SWR who will need to action.

When South West Trains Limited became Stagecoach South West Trains Limited (2009?), there was a different refund form if your season ticket was taken out before the change so that the refund was accounted for by the correct franchise.

It can be a refund or an extension at the customer's choice.

I'd assume 456-455-458-707, since they'd most likely want to get rid of the older stock first.

Yuck. Had hoped for something more classic like sWr.

I quite liked my April Fools mock-up

  • Saved on the need to quickly repaint red trains
  • Referenced the original LSWR route branding and colour scheme
  • Referenced First and MTR's involvement (First's GWR brand and MTR's colour scheme)

Will the painted swt 444 at portsmouth and southsea at the bottom of the stairs be kept as a momento?

SWT has also cast its mark inside idsworth chapel near rowlands castle

Will the fratton stagecoach swt sign finally be replaced...

SWT 444: depends how far First/MTR will do nostalgia. Doubtful.
Fratton sign: no reason at all why they should want to keep it.
The chapel: religion generally operates over a longer timescale than rail franchises. Perhaps First/MTR will "cast their mark" in other places, though their differing backgrounds would suggest a more ecumenical approach.

If this is the final logo.. why didnt they have the arrow pointing to the South West???

It's coming from the South West, because it's for people of South West who are going elsewhere rather than people from elsewhere who are going to the South West I'd assume?

I think the logo is actually a brief depiction of the sw network's lines if you look?

Will the 456s still be used frequently after tomorrow?

Yes. They aren't going to radically change things up on day 1. That doesn't tend to happen with things like rail franchises. Change tends to be somewhat glacial. Generally, there is no perceivable difference on day one other than things like name badges.

Of course they will. They are essential to the provision of 10 car main suburban side trains during the blockade, and will still be needed for 10 car trains from December until the new First/MTR fleet arrives in 2019 or whenever.

Once the blockade finishes surely you'd expect them to go back to their May 2017 normal diagrams, such as on the Ascot shuttles and existing main suburban work?

You won't even see new name badges on Day 1! I don't think staff be wearing anything with the new brand on it on Day 1.

Whether it's well regarded or not one company is never going to brand themselves in the colours and liveries of one of their biggest rivals, or do you think Stagecoach would brand a train operator in pink and purple as well?

What I think is that corporate vanity is somewhere approaching last on the list of 'Stuff that's important about running a decent railway', and yet after 20 years the clueless Whitehall penpushers still haven't learnt that 'changing things as often as we possibly can' has absolutely zero benefit whatsoever to the passenger.

SWT was one corner of the franchise disaster where a strong and generally respected brand had been allowed to flourish and establish itself for more than a fleeting five minutes, and now the DfT dogs have peed all over that as well. It doesn't matter who else won it, or what their favourite colour is this week, the point is that continuity has been lost and passengers once again have to negotiate change for change's sake (and pay for all that paint, signage, literature, uniform...)

The booklet (which as a Disability activist I am super impressed with) confirms @SW_Trains will become @SW_Railway on Twitter - liking the new brand I will say

Anyone agree that the logo seems to be based on a rough depiction of the sw network map? That's what struck me about it anyway.

That branding is bland, although I suppose I am used to the very strong branding that SWT has.

Livery will be SIMILAR to the original class 350 livery. The grey body, and blueish doors, witn the logo placed in various places along the train.

Is the new franchise going to be more run by MTR than First? Just comparing the new logo quickly with the logos of the First Group and of MTR, it seems to be more similar to the MTR logo than the First Group logo

Any ideas when the website / Twitter etc will change over? All still SWT at the moment, with the Twitter even tweeting SWT logos. Unless the changeover is tomorrow and I'm going mad?

Yes, I can see that. I want to say I'm not impressed but the reality is that I've lived with SWT for the entirety of their existence and that is what I'm used to. So any feelings on the change are biased towards the negative.

From a punter's point of view (in red train land) , however, I would ask why on earth are 'they' bothering to try and fix something that wasn't broken. (I have been here long enough to understand more than the average traveller, I hope, so I'm not really after an answer to that!)

I'm keeping my signature for now.
