I would have thought that by releasing proposed designs now - asking for feedback, and engaging with passengers, they can only generate goodwill, and avoid problems later.

On the subject of secrecy around plans for the HSTs, has anyone seen draft timetables?

I'm hearing stories of proposed reductions to intermediate stops on the Highland Main Line, and it isn't going down well with the natives.

Similar rumours here in NE Scotland. Yet again there seems a vale of secrecy.

An article in RAIL about Haymarket depot states that the first HST is expected up here by the end of the year at the latest and that it will be allocated to the depot in March 2018.

There was a very interesting but sadly rather off-topic discussion about the future timetable on the Highland Mainline going on in this thread so I've moved it into it's own dedicated thread which can be found here. Let's keep this thread for discussions about the HSTs coming to Scotrail.

Many thanks,

ScotRail driver trainers were at Laira depot today to visit the HSTs.
Power car numbers also confirmed.

New photos show the new disabled toilet design, as well as the HST stopping boards - which state "4+2" & "5+2" respectively.

Thanks for the information.

I for one am really looking forward to seeing the HSTs in Inverness.

Will they be able to sort out the creaking from the coach ends on starting and stopping?

Scotrail take "ownership" of the first HST set in just under 2 weeks time at Laira depot. It is due to be moved to Scotland by ROG by the 2nd week in September to be used for driver training.

All HST sets must be delivered to Scotrail on time regardless of delays to the GW electrification, as the DfT cannot stop the move as it's a Transport Scotland deal.

Hitachi are taking over the lease of Craigentinny in 2018, for the maintenance of VTEC's class 800/801s, as well as their HSTs until withdrawal, and Scotrail's class 385s (Not sure what became of proposals for a dedicated maintenance depot for these at Millerhill - surely it's going to get overcrowded at Craigentinny?).

Alterations are being made to Haymarket depot to house Scotrail's HSTs, including lengthening the main shed to accommodate 2+5 formations, and I believe will become their main base.

Millerhill is well ahead. Overnight berthing. I guess they will visit Craigentinny for maintenance.

The dedicated depot at millerhill still lives but i think it is waiting remoddelling of Portobello Junction, Branston Station and electrification of the suburban.

It was an "S" one that I saw passing through Dundee.

Millerhill depot is about 80% built but doesn't look to be too much in the way of maintenance space, more stabling.

Millerhill was intended to become a Traincrew depot for Scotrail but they binned that plan back in May. It will be used for overnight stabling of 385 units. Depot driver jobs were advertised internally a few weeks ago for it.

Few photos of the power doors that will be fitted to Scotrail HSTs, after being assembled to an Mk3 at Wabtec Doncaster back in March. All necessary tests have been completed and passed.

Lucky Scotland that's what I say. Best rolling stock on the network.

Would agree with that, if it wasn't for the sh*t Grammer seats being left in the coaches from GW - they are so bad that I would seriously consider driving, if I didn't have a staff pass! Already have to suffer them in our 158s...

Re Depot allocation - were some of the HST's not supposed to have been based in Inverness?

Door design doesn't look as 'neat'as the Chiltern Mk3s, but will, hopefully, be reliable and trouble free.

Doors look a lot like a 156 door, not the worst but a little slow at times

Does the door not sit flush with the outside of the body? Seems like that'd create a lot of drag and an incredible amount of noise.
