They're not pres diesels, so I'd say not.

WCRC wouldn't count I guess either.

Do monsters like 40145, 55022 and such like, which do regular mainline work count? Can't see why not, but better to be sure!

Going to be a mission to find my favourite photo for entering into this, it has to be said! Envisioning loads of potential entries already!

No, DRS 20s are not preserved so they don't count. ;)

40145/55022 are preserved, so they count.

WCRC locos are not preserved, so they don't count.

Anyone spotting a pattern? ;)

Was hoping I'd chosen a nice wide category here cos when you look at it, there's plenty of diesels in preservation now all over the country! Plus quite a few preserved diesels get out onto the mainline on railtours - I'm looking forward to seeing what everyone enters:)

It is a pretty good open category, a wise choice!

Jordy: Better to be absolutely certain, and I had no intention of entering a WCRC loco myself but again felt it better to ensure it was cleared up now!

What I will enter is a mystery to me still, too much to choose from! Off I go to my flash drive to scour it for the best entries :D

Not exactly WCRC had under their wing I believe one class 37 that actually was preserved so that one would count (if you can find it).
And for proof the loco has been taken off loan now and is back to it's proper preserved status.

Just did a check and the loco in question is 37248 http://www.thegrowlergroup.org.uk/248/37248_home.html.

Jordy was correct, as whilst it was 'under their wing' (as you put it) 37248 has never been a WCRC loco. It was merely hired by them and painted in the company colours, similar to when 50017 was hired by VSOE.

okay it's "Under their wing" (as I put it) but jordy's statement was incorrect as you can send in a shot of 37248 becasue it is preserved and was a WCRC loco as it operated their services under their banner with the full correct livery albeit on a temporary 3 year basis I believe.

Sorry im having one of those matter of fact days spent all day doing chronostratigraphy <(

No it wasn't - see my post above. Just because it carried a colour and operated the companies services doesn't mean it was their loco. 31190 wasn't WCRC's either.

Well fair enough it was not owner by WCRC company but was in their operational fleet and yes I can read the above post thanks this is me being defiant because we obviously have a difference in opinion.

So okay it is not an official WCRC loco but was used by them for their services in their livery if you can give me an official name for that type of use other than loan ill be happy to agree with you.

(No offence meant but once again my pedant light is on)

lease or hire

There, I even came up with 2 words.

Thank you for that I think I shall choose lease if that is alright with you.

Why does it even matter?

If you don't think a photo fits, then don't vote for it, it's not difficult

No but it is more difficult than that most of the time on this forum to be honest im not entirely bothered just I want the best results from my entry so gaining some clarity on the situation is never a bad thing really.

Yes, but there's no need to drag it on over a small technicality.

As mentioned I know im dragging it out but I wanted to clear up the fact that you could use that specific loco as I believe some people are under the impression that there are no mainline preserved class 37's and if they have a shot of this on the royal Scotsman and it happens to be in the welsh highlands then im sure it has a pretty good chance of winning.

Besides my point is proven and done so everyone can go back to being happy and talk about whatever they talk about these days :D.

Didn't we have this fairly recently? It's hardly a rich vein to tap, but so long as they don't have to be in multiple this time it would help.
