REC calls and single manned boxes

Just a thought, but if a railway emergency call comes through on the GSMR, and the signaller is using the facilities, where does the call go? Does it just ring until the signaller gets off the John, or does it go to a fringe box?

Control will answer it after 15 seconds.

Thanks for that, 15 seconds seems a long time though if it's actually an emergency like a one under it similar.

The REC will stop trains in the area regardless of whether it is answered in good time. All the signaller will do on the call is get the basic details from the initiating driver (what the problem is, location, lines affected), instruct the relevant drivers to make no further movements, then say the magic words: 'End of Railway Emergency Group Call, out.' Further discussion will then take place via an urgent call to the driver concerned.

Firstly it depends on the box, in somewhere like Picadilly SC, or TVSC there's always someone at the work station, or fairly close to answer a RGEC on the GSMR.

If it's a smaller box with one person and they are using the facilities at the time, control get the call after 15 seconds. It's not too long in reality.

Control get the call immediately and listen in, they will answer after 15 seconds if no one else does.
