Heart stopping moment for the poor driver.

This could have ended very differently.

Heart-stopping footage shows the moment a high speed train was inches away from smashing into a tractor and trailer ambling over a level crossing.*

Dramatic video from the cab of the train shows it just avoiding the back of the trailer as it bobbled over the tracks close to*Leicester.

With no time to slow down the train driver had little option but to keep on going and fortunately he avoided the back of the cumbersome vehicle

It is thought the incident happened near the village of Huncote in*Leicestershire on August 4, 2014 after the tractor's driver failed to obtain telephone permission to use the crossing.

British Transport Police Leicestershire only posted the shocking video yesterday on its Twitter*feed, saying:*'Leicester, near devastating video. Why rural crossings must be used with care. Follow the rules; don't risk it.'*

Has the tractor driver been charged with dangerous driving?

If that's not dangerous driving I don't know what is. People have certainly got points on their licence for a lot less.

Fair use quote from the first article:

The 26-year-old driver, of Desford, Leicester, was later fined £500 and ordered to pay £3,000 compensation and £85 costs after being convicted of railway obstruction.

It appears the event took place in August 014.

I must say, i did think "crikey he pulled up sharpish" after reading "High Speed Train" then realised it was a generic term and it would be a 170.
As said, the incident was in 2014 but the story is from today.

Journalists are notoriously bad at covering railways accurately... I was wondering the same thing and concluded that the video was sped up. :|:D

"With no time to slow down the train driver had little option but to keep on going and fortunately he narrowly missed the back of the cumbersome vehicle." That quote from the Daily Mail doesn't make sense. There was time to slow down, though not to stop. It's not clear from the video whether the train had started to slow before it reached the crossing.

Was the crossing a user worked with a phone to the bobby I take it?
We have a notorious traccor down our neck who has abused his crossing numerous times. Our answer is put 4 whistle boards up on approach which is really great.
There was another instance fairly recently on my patch which a tractor went across the crossing and nearly had a collision even though he had rang and did have permission. The bobby quote was "I thought you were further back in the section Driver"
