Willesden Green to Lombard St, EC

Looks like my Monday to Friday landlady might be moving and she wants me to carry on lodging with her.
It'll be a swap from a 25 min walk from St Kaths Docks to a 30 min (?) tube journey on the Jubilee line.
I'd like to know what the journey is likely to run like - mornings starting around half 8 and coming back around half 5. Okish or a right pain?

For Lombard Street I would change to the Met at Finchley Road (cross platform) and walk from Moorgate or Liverpool Street depending on which end of Lombard Street. That shouldn't be too bad by London standards.

Don't get any ideas about staying on the Jubilee to London Bridge and walking from there, it is totally manic east of Waterloo in the peaks.

Thanks for that. London Bridge was an idea but I'll ditch that now!
What about changing at Westminster and getting off at either Cannon St or Monument?

Multiple flights of stairs/escalators at Westminster, versus a simple cross-platform at Finchley Road. Definitely not better than the Met.

Yeah, I can't come up with a better second option (Bond Street is a distant #3).

Bond St would never be an option for me. I detest the Central line.

as an alternative to walking the last bit, Bike Hire. The Santander cycles cost £2 per day or £90/year.

Because fares are zonal there is no advantage in using cycle hire if you are in zone 1 already. Financially it is probably worthwhile if you use the docking station near St John's Wood station (zone 2) but if all 10 bikes are taken it is a fair old walk to the next one.

I'd definitely recommend the Met Line from Finchley Road option, especially in the warmer months when the aircon is really nice, especially in the evening rush hour!

There are several other alternatives, perhaps the most "exotic" would be to change at Waterloo for the Waterloo and City!

I haven't been on The Drain for a long time. Do people still politely queue on the platforms at each point the doors stop?!

Will miss my morning stroll to wok along the Thames by the Tower of London.
I did vow never to get anywhere that wasn't within walking distance of work (having a long journey on Monday morning/Friday evening) but I'm not really seeing anything for the price I pay now.

No unfortunately it is every man or woman for themselves and some of them are ruthless.

Well today was the first time I had to travel on the tube rather than walk. Went via Westminster. Was horrible on the Jubilee line. Packed and hot. Can imagine it being awful in summer. Will certainly try Met Line from Finchley Rd, as suggested, tomorrow.

Just to pick up on this, and as a more general point as opposed to specifically about this commute, the £90 year's Cycle Hire membership might not offer any financial saving but the ability to quickly jump on a bike in central London - of course subject to availability, and the availability of somewhere to dock the bike on arrival - can be quite liberating, and certainly can beat playing sardines on certain stretches of the Tube at certain times. You can jump on a bike in your lunch hour, or use one for a quick wizz across town after work for example.

Just making the point that it's not always all just about the money!

westv - of course the great hope is that Crossrail will relieve the Jubilee line, to an extent. (That, or Brexit triggering the next recession...) We shall see how things pan out in time.

Day 2. Tried Met/Jubilee. Almost as busy as yesterday but at least the Met has air con.
Already fed up with this commute and really miss the easy walk into work I had before.
