Note: split from GB Railfreight in 'locomotive acquisition' talks
I think the likelihood of British coal mines opening that will bring a fleet of 60s into use is approaching zero.

The UK has ambitious carbon reduction targets to achieve over the next 20 years and burning coal won't help that aspiration a great deal.

And Brexit won't change that at all.
That's because the whole climate change and global warming is a farce hence why Donald Trump is re-introducing coal power again in America (good man I say). Also nature provides man with many non-lethal fuels like coal and oil, gas etc for man to use. So there is really no need for Nuclear power and I haven't been in favour of Nuclear since that 1986 incident in Chernobyl. Also this green energy thing is more or less just an expensive money-spinner. Wether that is just my opinion or facts is another matter but the truth always comes out in the end :).

Although I have said this before perhaps on another forum. Coal power stations could have been retrofitted with CRT traps to capture the toxic fumes. But no research has been put into it as of yet and the CRT model is more or less fitting a giant catalytic-converter into the exhaust cooling towers. Also there is no danger of nuclear radiation either if something goes wrong :).

He is? Personally? Coal mines in the US continue to close and gas continues to be cheaper than coal. Trump can't "fix" that.

There is little doubt that man has influenced climate change. Whilst you and Trump might not believe it, the evidence is there for all to see.

Indeed. Trump has made the single biggest retrograde step in living memory in the fight against climate change by pulling the US out of the Paris agreement. He (and BR60062) won't be around to see the effects of this calamitous decision, which will be fine for them, but will be for our children and grandchildren to somehow deal with. We can only hope the decision is reversed by Trump's successor.

Rome wasn't built in a day as they say. Give it time.

I despair sometimes.
Why?.

Its not a matter of if the truth comes, its "WHEN" the truth comes out and the mask is about to come off ;). In the next 5 years, you will see what I mean my mate.

Well, if you're an 'environmental denier', you're in good company.

And this was before the Paris bombshell.

https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2017/may/31/donald-trump-worst-things-climate-change-environment

1. Nominating Scott Pruitt as EPA administrator

Donald Trump will make 'final decision' on Paris climate deal next week. In March, Scott Pruitt infamously said about carbon dioxide that “I would not agree that it’s a primary contributor to the global warming that we see”, in contradiction to climate scientists, including those at his own agency. Trump’s Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) chief has deep ties to fossil fuel interests and joined with them on numerous occasions to challenge EPA pollution rules while attorney general of Oklahoma. He has opined that the EPA has become distracted from its core mission by climate concerns and has begin the process of ripping up Obama-era emissions regulations.

2. All change at the EPA

Trump’s proposed budget would cut the EPA’s budget by nearly a third, a move that many Republicans have called draconian. Climate and clean energy programs are earmarked for the scrapheap, with even the data collection process for companies’ greenhouse gas emissions wound down. Climate considerations in federal permitting have been abolished, measures to reduce methane emissions have been halted and new standards to improve fuel efficiency of cars and trucks have been suspended.

3. Starting the demolition of the clean power plan

An executive order in March demanded a review of the clean power plan in order to remove “regulatory burdens that unnecessarily encumber energy production”. Trump has repeatedly vowed to dismantle the plan, which aims to curb carbon dioxide emissions from coal-fired power plants. Several analyses have shown that without the plan, the US will fail to cut emissions to the level pledged at the Paris agreement.

4. Open up federal land and waters to drilling

Congress moves to give away national lands, discounting billions in revenue. Trump has instructed the interior department to review dozens of national monuments to see if they could be scrapped or resized to allow better access for oil and gas drilling. A moratorium on coal mining on federal land has been lifted while a bar on offshore drilling off the Atlantic coast is being reviewed. Trump’s budget also calls for drilling in the Arctic national refuge in Alaska, a plan that has dismayed environmentalists.

5. Approve pipelines

In one of his first acts of presidential pen wielding, Trump called for the rapid approval of the controversial Keystone and Dakota Access pipelines. The two oil-carrying projects are now pushing ahead, with the Dakota Access pipeline already registering its first leaks before it is even fully operational.

A tactic that your 'idol' has clearly demonstrated ;)
Haha! Guilty as charged mate. I put that down to being a Scorpio moon with lots of Aries in my chart :).

It might do you some good to have a read through this thread then
I like it mate, although sometimes I do regret cleaning my glasses with rub-in alcohol as my spec are a bit too HD than I am liking. On the flipside though. If I was an American, I would have voted for Trump out of the two options as per most of the Americans that did :).

The Simple Proof of Man-Made Global Warming

https://skeptoid.com/episodes/4549

...each year, we measure a total of about 29 billion tons of CO2 added to the atmosphere. That's more than 100 times the amount volcanoes can account for. The only possible source of all the rest of that new CO2 is fossil fuel burned by humans...

...As we burn fossil fuels, the CO2 in the atmosphere increases, the infrared window narrows, less heat radiates away from the Earth, and more heat goes into the Earth's system. These are simple, solid facts...

Can you clarify, who did more Americans vote for, out of Trump and Clinton?
http://edition.cnn.com/2016/12/21/p...y-clinton-popular-vote-final-count/index.html
More Americans voted for Hillary Clinton than any other losing presidential candidate in US history.

The Democrat outpaced President-elect Donald Trump by almost 2.9 million votes, with 65,844,954 (48.2%) to his 62,979,879 (46.1%), according to revised and certified final election results from all 50 states and the District of Columbia.

That's too scientific for Trump. He is not interested in science and facts as it doesn't suit his agenda.

(BTW I added a quote of some key extracts to comply with our Forum Rules regarding external content)

To be honest with you mate. Having not owned a television since 2004. I am very skeptical to what any mainstream media might say, post or show. In all honesty, I take everything that the mainstream media says with a pinch of salt :).

Don't think that there's anything more to be had out of this discussion then - in my opinion.

Just for clarity then, you believe that the 'mainstream media' are lying about Clinton winning more of the popular vote than Trump?

You mean you just ignore all evidence, and believe whatever suits your own prejudices?
In that case, I don't think there is much point in trying to have a reasonable discussion with you.

Here is my thoughts and perhaps an honest question for you. If Hilary Clinton won the election. Why is Donald Trump president? I have my reasons to be skeptical of the mainstream media although I will keep my reasons to me and my friends only :).

That is entirely up to you mate. Although I am happy to have a civilised conversation with anyone that is reasonable enough to listen.

But here is some food for thought and I will say the latter in italic. Why should I be convinced to believe the mainstream media? Just because a media company has a massive platform. It doesn't mean that they are always right. If there is solid evidence that the mainstream media is correct on what they are saying and I am proven to be wrong. I will change my mind but I won't hold my breath ;).

America uses the Electoral College system that doesn't go by popular vote.

For the simple reason that Hilary Clinton won more votes but the in the American system it is possible to win more votes (and more states) but not win the vote in the Electoral College.

No conspiracy theories required - it's happened at least three times.

Maybe that is the case. To be honest, as I am not an American and neither have I lived in America as of yet. So unfortunately I am not in a position to explain how their politics or voting system works. But I am truly confused as to why Donald Trump is President if Hilary won as the media claims to be the case?

Thanks for the heads up buddy but don't worry. I am cool headed and I am capable of having a civilised debate with anyone :).

It's not a media claim, it's the official result. *Nobody* denies that more votes were cast for Hillary Clinton than for Donald Trump, not even Donald Trump.

Perhaps you should refrain from making comments about things that you yourself about you know nothing about.

I am at a lost as to what you are referring to in all honesty.

Fixed that for you
With ignorance? Yeah that works a treat!. Cheers mate.

Oh and keep up with the nasty snide comments (from some of you) as my ignore list is growing nicely ;). I fully understand that there is a lot of people on here that clearly dislike Donald Trump (and me for taking Donald Trump's side) and I do not have a problem with that because this is a very interesting debate. Also the truth can be tailored-made to a degree :).

I will say this, if I was an American. I would have voted Donald Trump because he is putting his own country first and his own people first. No-one can yet say if he will be a good or a bad president as he only took office back in January (20th of January 2017 to be precise) and its just too early to pass judgement on that subject. Only time will tell if he becomes a successful president or a failed president.

Sadly Trump does believe that he got more votes , as shown by his repeated claims of unsubstantiated voter fraud , and his brand new voter commission, which really looks more like a voter suppression machine to me , especially with Kris Kobach at the helm

You are the one who claimed Trump won the popular vote, so the onus is on you to prove it.

Are you familiar with the concept of the electoral college system?

It looks to me like Trump can only get support from people who just believe any old rubbish that he says, and are not prepared to do any research.

Worryingly there are enough such people in the US for him to be elected, but things are rather different in this country.

If you are going to make unsubstantiated statements, you need to back them up.
