Midland Metro Driver/CSR

Afternoon does anyone know how much a Driver/CSR gets paid on Midland Metro after training? And is this a good way to becoming a Train Driver, if that's my ulitimate goal?. Have been invited for an assessment but not sure if it's a good idea to continue with the application partly because the pay stated during training was less than £20,000 and not really sure that skills if a tram driver can be transferred to that of a train driver.

I think it is a good place to start. You will not be able to 'transfer' to a train driver as such so by that I mean you will have to apply for a Trainee Train Driver's role along with all the other thousands of people who decide to apply. But the experience will definitely do you good when it comes to the interview as you will probably have all the right answers when they ask you questions such as about dealing with emergency situations, etc... Also presumably the skills of a tram driver are similar to that of a train driver in terms of concentration for a long periods of time, working independently, working to strict rules and regulations, etc...

I would definitely recommend attending the assessment anyway as even if you decide it is not for you, it will be valuable experience for future applications.
